6 cylinder tranny with small block
I have a 71 2wd half ton with a factory 6 and one of those 4 speed manuals with three regular gears and an unsynchronized, tall as all hell first gear. Has anyone dropped the 6 cylinder, left the tranny and put a 350 in? If it mounts to the bellhousing fine, what about the clutch linkage that bolts to the frame and block? Any ideas or suggestions?

Yes, the sb will bolt in on the 6/250 stands. the HEI will fit, but is tight .......I can remove/replace the dist with the cap & rotor off. I used the 73 up water pump, steering pump, brackets & pulleys to get the fan proper distance with the shroud without a bunch of spacer. On the clutch linkage, I used the V8 pcs, but with a couple mods. I used a screw in pivot ball, in the foward hole in the block, & set the bellcrank up perpendicular to the block, & redrilled the holes for the frame bracket. the bottom rod was also adjusted for lenght. Set up like this, a set of 69090 headmans fit & cleared the linkage. Im not sure about header clearance on the bell crossmember, as my truck was an auto converted to stick(pretty sure they will go tho). Good luck, crazyL
