69 C-10 I am looking at. What's a fair price?

I am looking for a truck to build this summer and I found this truck about 20 mins from me. I went and looked at it last weekend and it looks like a solid truck. The bed floor will have to go because of rust around the edges and the rockers will need to be replaced along with a small section of the cab floor, but other than that it seems to be in pretty good shape. All the body panels are in good shape. Didn't "notice" any bondo or bubbling anywhere. I tapped around the body and everything felt solid.

The 305 in it runs, although I haven't heard it fired up yet. It has power steering and brakes.

It was listed on ebay for $900 and had 0 bids, but I think that was just because of the mulitcolored appearance.

The last one of these trucks I bought was a 67 stepside 15 years ago (wow, I am getting old) so I am a little out of touch with prices. The guy seems super nice on the phone and I want to be fair. What's a fair price for this truck?




P.S. This guy has about 10 of these trucks, plus a bunch of parts and body panels, setting in his backyard. If anyone is close shoot me a PM and I'll get you his number. He's located near the TN/KY State line on I-65 north of Nashville,TN and south of Bowling Green, Ky.

I paid 800 for my long bed in way worse condition...i'd pay 900 for that one.

I paid 900 bucks for my '67 LWB and it needed a new front clip and still needs a new bedside, rockers, windshield, window regulators, and bed wood. I would drop 9-franklins for that one and not lose a minute of sleep.

With these trucks getting harder to come by I'd pay the price. BUT I would always hit the seller with a lower price, that's just part of the fun.
You must have some time and a nice shop in order to do a project like that in a summer. I have to do mine a little at a time and that will take years.

Thanks for the feedback guys. That gives me a good idea of what to pay.

I think I am going to see if he has a truck with a decent 67-68 front clip and swap it for the front clip on this truck. The front clip on this truck is fine, but I like the 67-68 look.

He had a truck there (not sure what year) that had mounts for the running lights molded into the top of the cab. It came that way from the factory. Never seen that before. Not interested in it, but thought I would mention it.

prices seem to be all over the place lately. I looked at 2 similar trucks last night. Green bomb was $1500. Orange beater was $3800. But that included "rare" power steering

Dad's philosophy 101: You can always go up, but you can't go down on your offers.

Start out low. If it didn't sell for $900, offer $450. Better be up to stuff on your metal working skills, if it needs a bed floor and floor pans. Unless you're the body guy, it ain't cheap labor. Parts is cheap.....

I am not dead set on this one, because I plan to turn it into a shortbed. So finding a shortbed would be better, but that's not gonna happen at this price.

The pics are a little misleading though. It is a very solid truck and the body is in excellent shape, minus the paint . The only rust is in the bed floor and a little in the rockers. The PO cutout some small areas in the cab floor and riveted some metal there and that will need to be replaced. I doubt very seriously that I am going to find one around here in much better shape for the money. I don't mind the rockers and stuff like that. I just don't wanna be beating, banging and filling body panels - or having to buy new ones.

The thing that sucks is that my grandad has about 3-4 of these trucks sitting on his land/mini-junkyard, but the old geezer is so tight and stingy I doubt he'll part with any of it.

Meathead, I'll send you the details after I buy, or don't buy this truck. This guy has some good trucks and parts. I'll take some pictures the next time I go up there.
