Brake booster

Are there different sizes available? I have a 1980 and the brake booster is like 10-12" in diameter. I thought I had seen a newer pick up with a smaller booster on it. I would like to switch - I need more room for my turbo set up.

Any ideas?

Re: Brake booster

Why not Hydroboost? That would seem like the perfect setup for a turbo'd truck.

All you need is the pump. No room??

My next suggestion would be manual brakes.

YEAH, that's why I'm looking into a smaller booster I need power brakes, this isn't a 2200lbs race car. I've found some universal boosters online (7") - I assume I could make it work!

A properly sized manual master cylinder can generate the same clamping force as a power assisted one. It just takes a little more effort to push the brake pedel. And since he has already ditched the power steering, I assumed he was physically capable of applying that additional push.

But your point about extra stopping power is a good one. I would suggest some larger diameter rotors on the front with some 4-piston calipers and an adjustable proportioning valve to set the front-to-rear bias.
