New springs too high

I took the 40 year old coils out of the front end of my 66 and put in some CPP 1 inch drop springs. I knew it would raise it. Its now about 1 1/4" higher than it was with the sagging old springs. I needed to tear into the front spindles to see what year they came from, it has discs up front. I'll order some dropped spindles on monday. How much should I expect the new springs to settle? I might end up cutting them down if they wont get the front end down enough.

Other than smacking my thumb with a hammer knocking the ball joints loose, I was pleased to see everything in the front end in great shape. It was changed over to the 73 and up components. Now I know.

Will the new spring drop a little?

Re: New springs too high

its common occurrence for a new drop coil to not drop a truck the advertised amount especially after the stock coils had 40 years of sag.new coils will settle usually 1/2" a while after installation but as stated earlier you can trim a coil to the desired height, and is not as taboo as many would like to think.

Re: New springs too high

Thanks for the replies. I had an idea that the springs would raise it up. I could tell from the angle of the controll arms they were either collapsed or cut. I found the new springs on Craigslist, too good of a deal to pass up. Its supposed to be nice today, I'll put a few miles on the truck. Once the dropped spindles get here we'll see where the hight is at, I might have to do some cutting.
