Re: cab identification

The hood, grill and dash would be the first thing I would notice.

Re: cab identification

im asking because i ordered a a/c kit from old air for my truck. the bracket they give you with the kit doesnt line up with the hole in the firewall.

they told me the only difference would be if i had a gmc cab. the firewall is different.

heres a picture of the inside. and outside.

Tony from 4-5-6 trucks could tell you in a heart beat. You might want to look him up and PM him, or he'll comment on this as soon as he sees it.

Post your VIN...if it is this format, it is a Chevy VIN: 3C144F103455

On the driver side frame rail, adjacent to the exhaust manifold, the last four number of the VIN will be stamped. If the VIN tag matches the frame ID, the cab and the frame go together. If they do not match, you have a mismatched cab and frame.

If it is this format, it is a GMC VIN: 1002PF32037A

If the dash looks like this, it is a Chevy Dash:

You have a Chevy dash in your truck. You have a Chevy hood and front grille assembly. It is not unusual to have Chevy/GMC components...they key is the VIN, because that is the basis of licensing your rig with your local DMV, regardless of what type of dash, hood, grille, body badges or frame ID, you have.

What does the title, VIN and frame rail ID show?

I hope this information is helpful.

Re: cab identification

the cab and frame have the same vin. its a vin for a 66.

i know the cab has been changed at some point. from all the pictures i've seen my dash and cab look chevrolet.

on a gmc in 63 the dash only had the hump for the cluster not the glove box. is that correct ????

Re: cab identification

The 4-5-6 Chevy Truck dash is smooth all the way across. The '60-'63 Chevy Truck dash has two eyebrows. The 4-5-6 GMC Truck dash has a single eyebrow over the dash cluster.

Re: cab identification

here is a '63 Chevy dash

and a '62 GMC dash (same as a '63)
Name: 62 gmc dash.jpg

that doesn't mean that someone didn't put a Chevy dash into a GMC cab, not sure how to tell by the firewall, but since your part didn't fit right maybe you can get the GMC part if they make it for GMC? If not guess it is time for some custom work, eh?

Re: cab identification

I'd get them to send a new bracket.

Without hijacking the thread, which 5 speed is that, and how do you like it?
