Re: Let the fun begin

I had some fun today! I started the tailgate swap and repair work to my stepside. It was a lot of work but I made some good progress. I still have some welding to do and then fit up the roll pan when it arrives on Monday. Then I wil dismantle it all and start the paint and bodywork process. Here are a few pctures from todays progress.

Re: Let the fun begin

Looking good so far i really like the not having the chains with the cheezy coverings rattling around back there, i think that same idea might be going on my stepside also !! Im just doing all the bodywork on my box right now i ordered up both fenders for mine as they were beyond repair, also picked up a 2" cowl hood some cab corners and that will cover the areas i cant repair myself with my son.

Re: Let the fun begin

Good job, jd.
It looks good.

Are you planning on extending the area around the locking mechanism on each side to give it the smooth, finished look.

BTW, I'm too use to seeing the top rails with light (or billet) inserts.

Looks Good!

Mar-K offers very good quality products. I've sent them a few dollars over the years.

Re: Let the fun begin

Thanks guys!

Thanks boxrodz, I have to cut up some shet metal to fill in the areas around the supplied fill plates. The ones that they supplied don't fill it all. I ran out of time yesterday and today is Easter, so I don't know if I will have time today to finish it up. I am wanting to put some brake lights in that area right above the latch area.

Re: Let the fun begin

I finally had some time to get back to work on this tailgate project over the last 2 nights. I ended up re-doing some of the metal work and I have just a few more things to finish up. I will then re-check the fitment of the tailgate and then start some bodywork. I am still waiting on a rollpan from Sir Michael's as I had to send back the first one for not having enough room for the hidden hitch. Here are a few pics of my progress....

Re: Let the fun begin

It has been forever and I am still dealing with Sir Michael's and the roll pan/hidden hitch issues. I received the second roll pan only to get the same design as the first on and not the one Michael designed for me. Grrrrr..... It was a mistake by their shipping guy. Yesterday I received the third and what I hoped to be the final one! And GRRRRRR...... This one won't work for me either! What do you guys think? LOL.... I am getting ready to turn into the !!!

Re: Let the fun begin

The gap between the tailgate and the roll pan I was hoping to be about a half inch to 3/4ths of an inch not 3 inches.

Re: Let the fun begin

I had a long talk with Michael last night at Sir Michael's. He is going to make a new pan for me with a couple of modifications from the one above. First, it will be made fo go all the way up to the tailgate on the outside edge within about a half inch. Second I am having him raise the bottom of the pan to be flush with the bottom of the fenders instead of hanging below the fenders by an inch. Third he is going to raise the license plate box about 1/2 inch for the clearance of the hitch. I hope that makes sense. I will have to modify my rear cross sill so that the license plate box can be raised. It will be in production next week. That gives me 2 more weeks of junk yarding and smaller projects. I hope to have the bodywork started on it as soon as it gets here.
