1971 Non Tilt Steering Column rebuild help
I need to know the order for the items in the picture. I am fairly certain it goes as follows...from left to right.
#1 followed by #2...then the column shifter housing....then #3 with the rubber side up.... Man I hope this makes sense..... |

Re: 1971 Non Tilt Steering Column rebuild help
The order that you show is not quite right. The schematic does not show the washer, (your #2) so I took a column apart to check on where the washer goes. The washer goes first, then the white plastic bearing, next the shifter bowl and then the plastic bearing with the rubber fitting into the turn signal support.
If we used your order as pictured it would be 2, 1, 3. Jim

Re: 1971 Non Tilt Steering Column rebuild help
The metal washer drops into the column first (it has a spot to rest on), then the plastic piece on the left. Then your shifter housing, the last plastic piece on the right goes on top. Your shifter rides between the plastic pieces. (No metal to metal contact).
Does that make sense? s/t
