1981 - 1987 Rear Bumper Compatibility

Can anyone verify/qualify the following:

1. Is the below pic an OEM bumper from a 1981 1/2 ton fleetside Chevy/GMC truck? It is a smoothie with a hitch.
2. If so, will it fit on a 1986 1/2 ton fleetside SWB?

Thanks.

It is certainly not a oem bumper for sure,if your interested in putting in on anyways just measure width of the frame and the bumper and compare

Thanks for timely reply. I thought it was not an OEM or NOS bumper. The dude who is selling it was "pulling my leg."

I looked at a bunch of photos on this site and could not one as well.

That is an oem bumper but not many of that style were used. It should bolt up to your rear frame.

Really? This is an OEM bumper? Then this is kinda rare then -- a hybrid between a smoothie and step bumper.

Can you tell me what years Chevy/GMC this bumper was made available besides 1981? Also, do you know what models sported this as a standard bumper? Or was it an opton?

Thanks.

Re: 1981 - 1987 Rear Bumper Compatibility

For everyone's info:

I measured my existing step bumper brackets. It was about 34 inches bracket/frame to bracket/frame.

I then measure the below photo smoothie/step hybrid bumper. It was about 35 inches bracket/frame to bracket/frame.

Needless to say, that is a huge variance as I just wanted to simply swap bumpers (bolting) without having to fabricate new brackets.

diddnt alot of dealerships put those bupers on instead or the standard bumper? you see them alot with the old school dealership engraving on them
"i swear that's the bumper that came with the truck" but as a dealer option?

Maybe you're right but I know for a fact that it won't fit my 86 1/2 ton GMC Fleetside SWB. Again, the 1-inch gap variance. Otherwise, I would have purchased it. The guy who owns it said it came off of his 1981 Chevy 1/2 ton 2WD. However, his truck was unavailable as I wanted to see the mounting, frame, brackets on the truck.

This is the first time I've seen a bumper like this. LMC, Classic Parts nor Brothers carry this model bumper as a reproduction (based on the catalogs I have).

I actually drove 90 minutes (each way) to check out the bumper this morning. At least it was a nice drive ....

Re: 1981 - 1987 Rear Bumper Compatibility

As N2TRUX said, that isn't an OEM bumper. OEM was the one everyone calls a "sport" bumper which is what was on Burbs and Blazer. Generally Dealerships ordered pickups without bumpers to put step bumpers on them like above. If it came off anything from 81-87 it will work, IF you get the brackets that came with it.
