Another project!

After watching this truck exchange hands among friends a few times, it was finally time for me to grab the bull by the horns. I picked this up today. Its an 87 Silverado with 3/4 ton axles (4.56 gears) and some sort of small lift kit (add a leaves in the back and new springs up front). It's got some rust, but I'll fix it later.... right now I have to find an engine for it as the original owner removed it before he sold it. Not bad for $500...

I can't remember much about it. I think it was made in Kentucky. I rebuilt the thing from the ground up a few years ago (redecked it, rewired it, built fenders for it, redid the tung and landing gear, all new bearings, and painted it). I've got about $1500 in it total, but it was a wreck when I bought it.

LOL thats exactly what I was going to say. Thats a pretty sweet looking truck I like it. I think it would look awesome with a small lift on it and some tires and rims.

Re: Another project!

Real nice truck for $500! I never get that lucky! Looks like a 4 inch lift is already on it, so 33s would fit with no problem. ...Joe

yeah, it's got 4" lift on it already as far as I can tell. One of the previous owners had 33 inch boggers on it. How much more do I need to go to clear 35's? I'm thinking 2" shackles up front and maybe move the leaf spring perches down or a shackle flip in back. Also maybe a 1 or two inch body lift but I don't like how the fuel tank hangs down so I'd have to do some mods on that as well.

well in that case, do you think I can get away with giving it two more inches of suspension lift and still use the stock drive shafts like I am now? The current set up is all springs. I would use a shackle in the front and a 2 or three inch block in the back.

Re: Another project!

You will probably have to lengthen them. My understanding is any thing more than 4" you have to lengthen them. You should probably ask over in the 4x4 forum though

Re: Another project!

You could always buy a 2-3" body lift if bigger tires is what you want.. Body lifts are cheap and easy to put on also.
