steering columns

LETS SEE THEM!!! For both Advanced Design and Task Force trucks. What did you get it out of and how easy/hard was it to adapt to these trucks.

I like the look of those aftermarket tilt columns but not the price. I live with in miles of a large U-Pull-It yard that has thousands of cars and trucks of every make, mainly 80's to late 90's/early 2000's. I went today looking at what could be used and seen a few that may work, but would like to see what everyone else is using in their trucks.

if you want something that goes right in and uses the stock clampsthe use a 68 chevy pickup column. this is what i did mine was a 3 on the tree but i took care of that since i am using an auto with a floor shift.

Not sure if this came out of a van or truck, but it's a "GM" steering column.



I'm thinking from 70's. It fit's well in my '54 AD truck

I would like it to be able to just bolt in like the stock column, but if I can find anything that does, I do have some decent fab skills and access to everything I should need to make it work.

Is that 68 pickup column tilt, its hard to tell from that picture.

no tilt on my column but a tilt one should fit the same.

I modified the stock column by removing the steering box from my 1948 column and machining the shaft end to fit a double D style universal joint. It seemed pretty simple and cheap. I bought the bearing end from Classic Parts:

These are before and after shots. Went from mid 70's chevy van tilt to Ididit column shift. Both were pretty easy the van fit in the stock upper mount and I made a simple plate for the bottom. I used a Borgeson drop that bolted into the stock upper holes and made another bottom plate and used an Ididit swivel mount for the new.

pic on its way-i did that in my 1951 panel truck in 1996. Went to my loacl bearing shop and fabbed my own setup. I built in a retainer before i sealed in bearing to keep steering shaft from sliding down the tube and makeing teh steering wheel a thrust bearing surface...

Here is a 57 with 71 Chevy tilt column a little harder to find but are out there. I got this one for $80 came out of a motorhome with 50 k on it will still have the key in the dash.
