Running Hot

1990 2500 Suburban, 7.4L/THM400/4.10s

The thermostst stuck and the burb got hot, didn't boil over shut down in time. Replaced the thermostat w/a 195*, the water pump and all hoses.

I took my daughter to college this past weekend and the Burb was running warm to hot (210* straight up) Climbing The Grapevine on I-5 even with A/C off the temp climbed to 240* and the fan clutch didn't engage. I replaced the fan clutch Tuesday and still runs at 210*. Pressure tested cap and it relieved at 13p and bled down. The new Stant 16psi also relieves at 13psi but remains steady at that temp.

Today I checked the timing, it was 26* advanced so I retarded to specification 4*btdc. Runs like crap so advanced back to 16*btdc. This distributor was replaced while I was on a trip.

Tomorrow I will break down and replace the radiator. It's a four row. Any other thoughts?

Re: Running Hot

id have the cooling system flushed too just for laughs and make sure you havent got any blockage.. also im not sure if you have to bleed (burp) the system once you refill it
you could have your old radiator boiled out at a radiator shop instead of replacing it too . I m assuming you checked to make sure no hoses are getting kinked and slowing flow causing it to overheat and im assuming the new thermostat is actually good... ive seen more than a few come out of the box bad
