Stock hood hinge upgrade
What do you guys think about these?
I replaced the stock hood hinges with hydraulic ones from a '97 Taurus. They work great! Here is a shot of the upper mount. I used a couple of waterpump studs to align it with the bottom mount. There is a clip the holds the bolt in place that was supplied with the support. I just drilled a hole in the fender to secure the bottom. I was having some issues with hood alignment. When I installed these it fit almost perfectly the first time.

Re: Stock hood hinge upgrade
Looks good there, how does it do at speed? I think the stock spring/hinge setup helps hold the back of the hood down when going down the highway or at least for the past 38 years I thought so.
I sure like the idea of not having to fight those springs though. |

Re: Stock hood hinge upgrade
Seems like an easy mod. I havn't priced shocks in a while, but they can't be to pricy. Theres nothing wrong with my hood springs besides the loud creeky squeak when you raise the hood. I think I'll try it one of these days. Thanks for sharing mobileortho.

Re: Stock hood hinge upgrade
Good job, how about some measurments for the lower attachment location.
Is that the best location, what would you change on the "next one". Thanks

Re: Stock hood hinge upgrade
Mr48chev: The truck is not on the road yet so I have not driven it at speed but I really don't expect any problems.
Solidaxel: The lower strut is 1.5" in front of the 3rd fender bolt from the front of the fender. At this point I can't really say that I'd cange anything.
