3 speed column to 4 speed floor
I don't know much of anything about the 55-59 trucks. I was wondering what would be involved in changing the column shift to a floor shift. Is there a removable floor hump section? Also are there any late model overdrive manual transmissions that would bolt in relatively easy?

Hurst
I have used swap meet 4 speed shifters and only used the ones for the two arms and not the reverse so your options are open, If the gear box is bad you may look into a saginaw camaro 3 speed it should fit right in place of your 59 3 speed box. you have many options by not having a rear crossmember to worry about

Re: 3 speed column to 4 speed floor
My experience with transmission swaps is you may run into problems with tail-shaft length. And the transmission crossmember. Of course, the driveshaft can be shortened and the crossmember modified or changed. Then worry about a shifter.

Re: 3 speed column to 4 speed floor
Does your truck have the rear motor mounts on the bellhousing?

Re: 3 speed column to 4 speed floor
a muncie or Warner T 10 or super T 10 should be pretty much a bolt up
and you can buy a hurst shifter stick with a bend to clear bench seat makes for a fun driveable package and with a highter geared rear you can use 1st three gears around town and 4th on the highway If you do a V 8 swap a v 8 bell housing for the early years will let you retain stock cross member and clutch and everytihng hooks up Gene Sharp |

Re: 3 speed column to 4 speed floor
Mr Gasket makes a pickup truck 3 speed floor shift conversion kit for Chevs part # 7667A. Just put one in my sons 67 C-10 was easy to do. Purchased it at Ato Zone for $69.99 plus tax. Hope this helps you

Re: 3 speed column to 4 speed floor
Yes it does. I am definitely not liking the column shift. I was considering a stealthy automatic conversion, but that is kind of difficult with the 235 6 cylinder. Before I take the V8 with Auto plunge I may try a floor shift conversion.
