63 door latch?
So, I've been fighting the driver side door latch in the Wife's '63 for years now. I've replaced the latch a few times, had body shops try to adjust it, and it still won't latch unless it's slammed hard. My friend at the body shop says I need a new striker as well as a new latch. I'm waiting for a backorderd latch and no one seems to make the striker. I figure any I find will be a 45 year old POS like I already have. So, I'm thinking about the bear claw latches they use in street rods. Anyone using them? How hard are they to install?

Re: 63 door latch?
I had a bunch of the same issues with mine, and then I re-adjusted the door hinges, and now it works perfect, your hinges could have sagged, or come out of adjustment over the years...

Bought a frontend off a guy last week, and he had bear-claws on his
'50 Panel project. Looked like they worked great. |

Re: 63 door latch?
I'll talk to my body shop guy to see if he tried adjusting the hinges. The hinges themselves seem to be tight no looseness or sagging.

Re: 63 door latch?
Well, the latch that I waited months to get lasted a few weeks and bent and became useless. So I put the old repop that was in it back in. Any ideas? My body shop guy thinks the bear claws might be a pain to fab up.

Re: 63 door latch?
I see LMC is repoping the strikers for the '63 now. I think I'll try a new latch new striker combo and see if that works. Here goes nothin'.

Re: 63 door latch?
The '60-'63's have a wedge shaped block on the door down below the striker and latch. Has that been adjusted as well? Sometimes they rub pretty hard in the B-pillar.
