brake lines , bend them or buy them?

ive swaped to front power disc i need new brake lines , all new front to back cause i scraped the old ones for PO reasons , im thinking of buying a kit from jegs that comes with 25ft of line and fittings , flare tool and bender . has anyone used one of these kits and does it come with all the fittings i would need ? or should i go with a prebent kit from a vender or line company , they seem the all run around 155-160$ for a 12 line kit , and im leaning that way for the simplicity and also i feel i might be nickel and dimed to death the other way , any opinions ?

Hey Rayce,

I bought a 25 ft coil of tubing, fittings, and a good bender and bent all my lines. It took a lot of patience and time since I was new at it but it worked out fine. The tubing and fittings are cheap (I used galvanized steel not stainless and use silicone brake fluid, no corrosion with that).

I did the same with 3/8" rigid fuel line to the new tank under the bed.

Good luck, should work out fine which ever way you go.

If you don't have the patience, call LMC they have a great SS kit that is easy to install. If I am not mistaken though, I had to use all of my old fittings and connectors.

i guess im alittle scared about the flareing , dosent it need to be a double flare ? is this hard ? im gonna guess that a kit from jegs isnt gonna have every fitting i need , are these avaliable at the auto parts place ?

Brake line Kit

You can typically get all the fittings you need at NAPA or other local parts place. You do need a good flaring tool, it is a double inverted flare but they are not hard to do with a good tool, just remember to put the nut on first dang it.

I use the Rigid #345 flaring tool (3/16" to 5/8") and a Rigid 1/4" tube bender as shown below.

I contacted Inline Tube and told them the year, for $165 they sent everything what I needed and it fit perfect.

I will be bending my own because they are going to be hidden and not to mention running down the left side of the truck.
It is not hard to double flare as long as you are not trying to do SS lines. The Gal steel should be pretty easy.

Based on my experience, a quality flaring/bending kit should be used. I tried a cheap one and then borrowed my buddies. You also need to buy a little extra line as you will make a couple mistakes....or at least I did!!

I just bought a pre-bent set. They go on much quicker and look more original.
It takes too long to bend lines at home at the axle and master cylinder, I usually have to throw away a bad bend, sometimes two.

I'll throw in my method. When I originally did lines on my pick-up, I went to the parts store and bought all the 3/16's line that was pre made. Got a bunch of union fittings, too. I was also trying to avoid flaring line. I bent all the lines to fit using the lengths I had available....NO cuts. It is possible; I screwed up 1 length of 12" line and then returned everything I didnt need.

I have since gotten a flaring tool, cheapy, and make them to length.

I bought mine from Inline Tube for single master and drum set up. Got most of the hard lines installed today. Fit nice and went in easy.

They make kits for both set ups, I think.
