difference between axles
Anyone know what is the difference between a 1941 thru 1950 front axle and a 1951 thru 1959 front axle?
for the record there is a 5 lug disc brake kit for sale but it is for a 49-50 1/2 ton. The axle in my 52 3/4 ton is a 52 1/2 axle. Would the bearings be the only difference between the kits for 52-59? If so anyone have the specs. I could easily get the correct bearings at a local bearings & drives shop. The guy got the kit from Jim Carter, they have two separate kits listed, one for 41-50 and another for 51-59. Anyone know what the difference would be? Thanks

Re: difference between axles
Brothers and cpp show the same axle and brake kit for 47-59? Jim Carter's catalog lists the brake kit the same for 41-54 1/2t? I believe the axles are the same fo 1/2 and 3/4t so it should work on your truck.

Re: difference between axles
the 6 lug is listed for 41 thru 54, the 5 lug is listed for 41-50 & 51-59. The axles for the 3/4 ton are not the same as the 1/2 tons, but I swapped the 3/4 axle for a 1/2 ton axle so that problem is solved.
I posted this on the stovebolt and classic parts talk (Classic Parts of America forum) and this is the info I got so far 41-50 the upper mount holes on the spindle is drilled out for a 7/16" bolt, 50-59 they are drilled out for a 1/2" bolt. also Front wheel bearings fit 41-59 the ND part numbers #909052 inner and #909067 outer. The front inner cup 2 7/8 OD - 2 21/64 ID # 909602 cone 1 7/8 OD - 1 9/32 ID # 909552 outer cup 2 3/16 OD - 1 5/8 ID # 909601 cone 1 1/32 OD - 3/4 ID # 909501 Front axle fits 41-55 1st ser cast # 3656872 33 1/4 offset.

Re: difference between axles
The bearing numbers you listed are for Ball type bearings, 2 cups and a cone. The differences in the spindles is that from 41-52 is they changed from huck brakes to Bendix and the upper hole was drilled to 1/2" in 52. 47 to 55 1st axles are different than 55 2nd to 59 in that they stopped using bolt on spindle stops and the spring pads were drilled parallel and not on a angle like the 47-55 1st. If your changing the hub to disc then you need to go with the bearings in the kit.
These are the Roller type bearing numbers for the stock hubs 909052R Set inner - MBS (Japan) 1946-59 ID 1.2815 OD 2.963 Set Width 1.145 909001R Set outer - MBS (Japan) 1953-59 ID 0.750 OD 2.08 Set Width 0.708 6064 Seal inner - National |
