81 chevy truck with headers and A/C

Hello all , been mainly a reader, now working on a 81 chevy lwb. It had a leaky 305 so I yanked it out and installed a 350 I had in another truck. I went with my old headers from my other truck but the A/C bracket wont fit now, it was curved to fit the stock exhaust manifold. Guess I could do a little welding to make it work but was wondering any simpler ideas. It has the small compressor mounted in front. Will post picks when I figure that out .

Thanks Warren

Re: 81 chevy truck with headers and A/C

I took the A/C bracket on my truck and my Son's truck and used the old exhaust manifold bolt for the front header bolt. I made some spacers out of stainless steel and used that to take up the space out to where the original A/C bracket sets. I also chopped some of the original A/C bracketry off and eliminated the top mounting bolt on the back of the A/C compressor. That cleaned up the truck quite a bit and makes it easier to m ount the headers.

Thanks for the info, do you have any pics of your bracket setup? I took the altenator bracket of my t-bucket that is used foe the altenator with headers and after looking at that believe I can just clearnce inside about 1/8" on each side and should work.

Re: 81 chevy truck with headers and A/C

Well I forgot about the space the original manifold took up, was moking the brackets up and seen the space. Might be able to make a bracket to weld onto the current bracket and the welded piece would bolt around the headers.
Any other Ideas?

Simple enough.

I cut the stock bracket... and used a spacer. Pretty easy..It could have been done a bit cleaner, but it wasnt for a show truck and only had a sawzall at the time.

Re: 81 chevy truck with headers and A/C

Thanks Prerunner, thats what I needed a few pictures, I understand a little better that way. Does it hold up all the weight with just 1 bolt with no problem? Could I get a pic of the whole setup, with how the brackets go together ? Thought I could remember it seemed pretty straight forward when I took them off.

Thanks again warren
