I got a 454 in my '69, it's waiting for me to slap on the Comp Cams extreme energy 278 cam (234*/244* @ .050), Edelbrock RPM Marine oval port heads (2.25/1.89 valves, 290cc runners) and RPM air gap intake that are sitting in my garage. I'm running a 5spd, so I can't help you with a converter recommendation... I'm shooting for mid 12's myself, hopefully around 530-540hp on motor. I wouldn't go over 240* @ .050 with the cam if you wanna keep it streetable. You probably could get something in the 234-236 range and have enough power for your goals if your heads are up to par.
