Fuel Pump question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Well today I pulled the fuel pump off and when it came off the rod shot out and a broken spring came out with it too. It dont look like its from the old fuel pump.... Is there a spring that goes in before the rod?

There is a return spring on the arm of the fuel pump but there is not any springs in the engine in that area of the pump.

Well I looked at both pumps (new and old) and they look identical so I'm not sure where the spring came out of...... I'm looking at the inside spring and its a about a 1 inch spring in diameter and the other one is about 1/2 inch. Going down to kragen to see if they can give me a hand with a visual look.

2 springs in there? got any pics ? Just curious. As noted, there are no springs in there except something built into the pump. You just need the pump, the block plate and the pushrod.

Doubt the kid at Kragens will know.

No pics but I went ahead and removed everything out of there and just replaced the old one with a new one..... My guess is that it was left in there years ago by accident when that one was replaced.

Either way thanks for the help.
