Modern seats for my 63
Can anyone give me some suggestions on a modern seat for my 63 Stepside? I would like to retain the bench seat style but have it contoured and bolstered for three people. I've noticed in the parts yard the secound row seats from a Chevy Astro mini van have the split/fold down feature but the mounts are hooks that attach to welded rods in the floor pan for easy removal. Post some pics if you can. Thanks, Aboz.

Re: Modern seats for my 63
Full size Chevy PUs 88-98 are the best choice IMO. Direct bolt in. Mid 90's give better contour. Head rests just pull out to keep neater appearance. Good time to update to 3 point seatbelts. Have 91' in my 60 now.

Re: Modern seats for my 63
If you can find it. Classic trucks mag did a story on it called project old skool.
They put all kinds of seats in it. All makes and sizes. They even put seats out of a Harley Davidson edition F150 in it. Try searching it out. If you can't find it I'll scan it in and post it when I can. Which could be a while. |

Re: Modern seats for my 63
In both my trucks I have replaced the seats. I always end up too high in the truck. C10addict's mod of 3'' is a good suggestion.

Re: Modern seats for my 63
This is the seat that is in my '64 I'm not sure what its out of. Only seen a pic of one on ebay that said '98 silverado ext. cab. It is a little tall for me as I am 6'5". Gonna look into cutting it down so I can see the traffic lights without leaning forward
Ignore the gold shag..... Its not there any longer

Re: Modern seats for my 63
The mid-90's Chevy truck seats look great in our trucks especially when upholstered in a nice leather. They just have a great size/shape. I am also a fan of the 98-up leather Silverado seats in the 60-40 style.

Re: Modern seats for my 63
Hey c10Addict, I like the look of your seat. It seems to have a 60's retro look that goes nice with the yaer model. You said you cut out some 3 inches from the base. I've seen those type bases before and they look like vinyl coated steel. Where do you make the cut to keep things neat and clean?

How is the height from your legs to the steering wheel? Plenty of room? I had a 2003 Ford F150 FX4 in 2003 that I measured the seats and it would of fit perfectly in my 62 Chevy pickup. Has anyone put CORVETTE Seats in thier trucks??????

Re: Modern seats for my 63
The height is fine, even without a tilt column and with a giant stock steering wheel. My legs have never rubbed that I am aware of and I've truly never given any thought to leg room from the seat to the wheel, which should be a sign it's a non-issue especially since I have fairly large legs from all my years of bicycle touring in my younger days. The '04 Silverado seats fit like a dream. They are as close to perfect as you could get considering they were made to go in a truck 42 years newer than mine! As far as Corvette seats in a C10, I think they are to low and thin, I know you can build legs for them to set them at the proper height but I think they would look strange in a truck... There is a company that makes a C5 lookalike truck seat with thicker bases but the same general design. I Googled "C5 Truck Seats" and found several companies selling them, they even make a console/jump seat that goes between them. If you want the C5 look I think these would be your best bet.

Re: Modern seats for my 63
How do the 99-04 style seats fit compared to the 88-98 style? I know the mid 90's benches work well (esp when lowered a little) so I'm curious if the 99-up seats have a higher seating position or ????
What about securing them to the floor? What was involved mounting the 99-up seats to a 6X-66 cab floor?

Re: Modern seats for my 63
They went in almost as if they were made for the truck. The outside holes lined up with the '04 seat brackets just fine and the inside holes (the extra four holes needed when converting from a bench to buckets) were easily drilled. I had to stack about 4 washers under the drivers front inside leg to raise it up a little, otherwise no modifications were needed to bolt them in, well I did brace up the floor pan so the bolts wouldn't rip through in an accident seeing as how the seat belts were made into the seats (the main reason I went with the 99 up seats instead of the 88-98 seats). I broke my back in an ATV accident in '03, since then I am more safety conscience. That is also why the stock bench didn't work for me, it didn't offer any lumbar support and these seats feel great. Not as good as the Pontiac Sunfire seats I put in my '82 V8 powered S10 show truck but they feel much better than the well worn stock bench did.

Re: Modern seats for my 63
Slightly off-topic, but does anyone know if the '04 seats have LATCH anchors for child seats? I have a stock bench that I'm looking into replacing, and just in case, I'd like to be able to throw the little one in the truck. If not does anyone know how well newer seats with the Latch anchors fit? Rear bench from '09ish?
