1972 402 bbc $500
Got this at a local junkyard. Will need a rebuild.
Casting numbers are 3999290, date is 6 8 72. By the alternator is T0517CTB Heads are 292s Intake is a cast iron 4 barrel. Water pump, power steering pump, and pulleys and brackets are there, exept the lower alternator is missing. This would be the correct motor for someone restoring a Chevelle or Camaro, or want to build a clone. I don't have a use for it, and trying to get money together to buy a crew cab locally. I'm asking $500, but reasonable offers accepted. Any questions, PM or call 607-237-0067.

Re: 1972 402 bbc $500
Wow, like my good friend Jim says up a little higher on the page, "tempting".
I would be interested in making a reasonable offer and heading up I-81 with a little more info. Is it in running condition, or is it just in "rebuild only" shape? I have a lot of BBCs, but not really into date codes and casting #s, more into will it move one of my vehicles around in the yard. I have a 5-ton dump with a 409 in it that I would like to stick in my old '51 Chevy car, so I just need a BBC to keep it mobile, or if it is in better shape than a few of my other ones, it could end up in something more FUN. Dont really care if it smokes, just whether the crank isn't clanking. Please let me know what YOU know. Thanks, Mike

Re: 1972 402 bbc $500
The heads will for sure need a rebuild, at least one valve it stuck open. But pulled one head off, and the bore didnt' look bad. There wasn't any rust either IIR. Probly could just tear it down, hone and rering, polish the journals and bearings, might be OK. If I had a good set of heads ready to go, I'd probly do it, but don't want to spend money on something that I proby wont get back out of.

Re: 1972 402 bbc $500
I am assuming that you have not heard this run? This is one of those BBCs that has me on the fence about it, as far as not being in good enough shape to drop in, but too nice to allow it to be become a boat anchor. I think I might be interested in taking a chance on this one, if, it was not sitting outdoors when you got it, if it had spark plugs in it, whether it has a car or truck oil pan, (aprox. 8 or 13 inches across the bottom lengthwise if I remember right) and if you would be willing to send me a PM with your rock bottom price. Not disputing the value by any means, just not good at making offers, and like most people, need to spend the least on my hobbies as I can. Please let me know. Thanks, Mike

Re: 1972 402 bbc $500
It's not drop it and go. Like I said in a previous post, will need heads rebuilt. Not knowing the history to the motor, I'd tear it down anyways, not hard or real expensive to do. It was in a truck, but is a car motor, and not ever having a big block out of a car, didn't even know there was a difference. I put a 454 from a truck into my 78 Malibu with no problems.
