Door Lock Keys
How can I get new door lock keys made? Is it something a lock smith can do ?
or will I have to order all new lock cylinders?

Re: Door Lock Keys
just go thru the box -o- keys you got laying around.. yank them locks off,,rip them apart ,,and do them yourself.. worst that can happen is you have to buy new ones... and you already got old ones out..i think it will cost more to have them re keyed..
....but then i might be wrong.. ...that's how i learned to pick locks.. |

Re: Door Lock Keys
I would just buy a new set of cylinders. It's easy to replace them and fairly cheap.

Re: Door Lock Keys
Locks and keys for both sides is less than $20. I'm guessing a smith would cost more than that just to show up.

Re: Door Lock Keys
Do you have a mom & pop type parts store in Sugarland, Tejas? Not long ago, the Carquest, NAPA and Big A stores would still have them in stock here. But the mom & pop stores are no more here.

Re: Door Lock Keys
mine only cost me $18.00 at napa, which is pretty cheap for 2 locks and keys... and if youre not in southern california then they will only cost half that ! ha ha...btw, the locksmith here wanted $30 to re-key them for me, and that was if i removed them and took them to him!... hope this helps...

Re: Door Lock Keys
Thanks for the help, I found a set at the local autozone, and Oreillys can order and have it in one day...... Now I just need to figure out why the power locks don't work...

Re: Door Lock Keys
When I lost keys for one of my trucks, I got em through the local GM dealership. If your vehicle has the original locks in it, they can look up the VIN and get you a new set. Think it cost $25-$30?
On a side note, apparently GM in the 80s only had 8 different sets of keys. Not sure if this is true or a rumor, but I did discover by accident that the keys from my 83 Camaro would open and start my Dad's 85 GMC truck. They were nearly identical.

Re: Door Lock Keys
Now, to hijack the thread... how about three for a suburban with barn doors and the new ignition? I've only seen sets for a regular truck without a matching barn door key. How difficult is it to switch out for the ignition?
