walmart carpet

Has anyone used the cheap carpet you can get at walmart or the auto parts stores that comes in a roll? Was wondering if anyone has used it and if it worked out ok. Was thinking of buying some to cover up the floor in my 65 chevy c10. Any feedback and pics would be appreciated.

Re: walmart carpet

I used to use it a lot when I was a broke teenager...it works fine as long as you put floor mats down. If you rub against it too much it starts pulling apart and looks like matted sh*t. But there is nothing wrong with it. The black actually can turn out pretty nice if you take your time....

Re: walmart carpet

Thanks for the input there Corts60. I will be putting mats down on top of it. Maybe I will do a how to when I do it for others that are on a budget. I'll at least take lots of pictures. I first have to patch up some holes I have on the floor. One on the drivers side and one on the passengers side. Anybody else have any input or pictures of their do it yourself cheap carpet installs.

Re: walmart carpet

I dont know what your budget is, madaca, but you mite be further ahead to get one of the original rubber floor matts that cover everything. My .02...

Re: walmart carpet

I too was on a budget in high school. thats why I tried the cheap carpet, and as stated above it basically turned into shag carpet making it impossible to vacuum. I finally saved up enough for a kit, which was way better but Im thinking of going the rubber floor mat route this time around.

Re: walmart carpet

You could also use the DIY bedliner, which has the added benefit of being waterproof.

Re: walmart carpet

I used Ozite carpeting in my 64 Suburban-one piece front to rear, including the firewall. This stuff stretches to fit all the bumps and grooves, and holds down well with spray adhesive. I put sound deadener and foil faced(both sides) pad down, then the carpet. There's an online store called "yourautotrim" that's based in Alabama, and they have a lot of different colors.

Re: walmart carpet

Thanks everyone. Some very good suggestions. I will look into the rubber mats and yourautotrim for the carpet as well. I will let you all know what I decide to go with later when I begin the project.

Re: walmart carpet

My sister just did some work on her Iroc over the winter, used that carpet from walmart for the whole floor. Worked OK.

Re: walmart carpet

I recently did my 73 with that cheap carpet. It came out okay. It will do. For $7 a roll you can't beat it. For some reason, the black seems a little more durable that other colors.

Re: walmart carpet

Find a carpet business and buy some remnants. You would be surprised at how cheap they will let the small pieces go for.
