You don't have to think about it anymore, I got it figured out. Just needed a clear mind.

I've wanted to do that to a car/truck, but not this one.

What's your back up plan?

Here is what I was doing wrong. The washers were in the wrong place. I put the slotted washer fartherist from the key and it worked great.

I didn't have to take much off for the passenger door handle to fit the hole. The drivers side fell right in.

I cut the ring off of the hard line comeing from the pump. I stuff a small piece of paper towel in the tube to keep filings out and used a cutoff wheel on a die grinder. Then cleaned up the edges then pulled to paper out.

Installed the compression fitting. I wish I could bend the line to make it paralell with the frame. I had a spring bender and tried it a little, but was scared I was going to twist the tube off of the pump.

This is my first attempt at making a steel braided hose connection. I've read about it being done and that's as much experience that I have. I wrapped the end of the hose with tape and cut it with my cutoff wheel. The braid unraveled and looked nasty. I had to slide the B nut over the other end of the hose to get it on. Note to self slide next fitting on prior to cutting. I finally got it together. The other end is not done yet. I need to see which port on the steering gear is the return.

Re: My 1965 build thread

Good idea with the paper towell Allan. I'll have to remember it. I like the looks of the lines, lots better then stock. On the dead batt. lock thing. could'nt you just get a jump. If your batt. is dead your going to have to anyway.

Re: My 1965 build thread

Looks good ALAN!!!
those braided lines are going to be super clean

glad you got her figured out.

I just swapped the steering gear on my '80 this weekend.
on it, the low pressure fitting was smaller than the high pressure side.

On the cold issue, went through that about a month ago - 80 degrees outside and your head feels like a balloon about to pop.

If that picture of 'Cat Fish Man' bothered you that much - I won't bring out my really crazy pictures then.

Great looking hoses and extreme close-up shots of the door handle work (which I desperately need to do too). One note on the pictures though - Los Alamos called and they want their scanning electron microscope back.

Mac.

Mac,
I think it might have brought back some bad (or good) military memories for Alan when he was a little crazy..

Re: My 1965 build thread

Screw the choke cable idea. Use a coat hanger like the old days. You make a finger loop to pull it And it's FREE
