getting a square body burb... VIN decode info?

I know we have an acurate 67 - 72 vin decode chart... is there one over here in the square body side? I'm getting a 77 or 78 3/4 ton, and would like to get some info on it. I doubt you can tell me much about it through the VIN, but i also have some pics I am working on to post.... I'd hate to bastardize some special promotion rarety.
Anyways, the VIN is;
CCS268F135410
All I know is it is a fugly old beast, 454/TH400?14 bolt (what kinda gears can I expect?) 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive, cruise control, guages (no tach) front A/C, not sure if it is a 3 row seat, or just 2, Tilt and cruise control, and I'm sure a few other cool items. just over 100,000 miles, minimal rust for an ohio square body... rust bucket by cali to texas standards.
I'm probably just going to use it for parts... but you guys may prevent a rare truck from getting chopped.
I doubt it is anything rare... but the photos will show here shortly.
Ohyeah, where would the SPID/option sheet be located?

no caption needed...

Rubber floor mat (with home carpet tossed on top) and a very ugly seat...

Nice rear!

Anyone know what kinda numbers these put out back then?

Re: getting a square body burb... VIN decode info?

And.. save the rust for last...

That back window actually works too! (is that worth much when parting out?)

So, from these photos... is there any real good options there? Does the tilt bring in much $$? back window motor? The eng/trans/rear aren't getting sold.... but is there much there besides dead weight that may help get some of my money back?

Andy- If your using the drive-train, there isn't much left. You can sell the front suspension for a 67-72 C-20 conversion. The front bumper looks good, and it appears the door panels are keepers. Beyond that, pickens are slim.

ken, thsat's what i kinda figured. However, i know there's been a bunch of 50th truck sliced and diced and scrapped when they were still restorable... and they always say... "I had no idea"...
So I had to check.
Never thought you'd see me owning a square body huh?

LOL!!!!
Some of the square bodys are starting to look good to me, but they are far and few between for me.

This is NOT one of the good looking ones.

Re: getting a square body burb... VIN decode info?

I really like square bodies, and that is not one of the good looking ones to me either.

The option sheet should be in the glove box. If not, check the inner fenders. That's where they were on the earlier trucks. Rear gear is probably 3.73, but may be lower.

Andy right now there are very few squares Burbs that are "highly" sought after. Big blocks in Burbs were fairly common especially on 20's.

Am I surprised that your digging squares? Not at all! I always knew you to be a man of good taste...

lol... it may be a temp motor, it may prove to be a keeper.
If I run another caddy motor, it'll have to be a fresh one, or at least fresh-ish.

I did overlook the column. The tilt column can bring a buck or two.

Dash pad looks good from what I can see but shipping those can be a PIA. . . .

Re: getting a square body burb... VIN decode info?

I have all the actual vin number sheets from GM on a year to year basis. from the 70's to 2009 I can't publish them as they are copyrighted but will look it up

You are correct on not finding out much from the vin I thought maybe the sheets would give more for a 1978.
chevrolet
conv cab
454 cid 240 hp 4 bbl
3/4 ton under 8000 gvw
Flint Mi

I will see if I can find more

Re: getting a square body burb... VIN decode info?

thanks!
I have since realized I had a book with the VIN decode in it...
Ken, I kinda assumed there was some value in the tilt. Didn't the column change at some point, or is it a direct swap 73 - 87 (73 - 91 in 30 series and burb/blazer)

Re: getting a square body burb... VIN decode info?

Yes, the cluster will sell if everything is working. It would bring more if it were a tach dash, but a good working clock dash should sell too.

Re: getting a square body burb... VIN decode info?

I had a loaded up 77 1/2 ton burb and loved it. 454 with dual stright pipes to the rear bumper. 6 mpg was just more than I could stand. Engine and trans are out of it and rest is up for grabs. Woody already got the cruise control and I'm keeping the tilt but the rest will be in the swapmeet area.
