alternator mounting problems
I'm trying to correct some things on my 67 CST that have been changed to the chrome and after market, back to stock parts. I am having problems finding some of the things that I have been looking for, but the one thing that I was sure that would change easily was relocating the alternator back to the drivers side where it should have been. I had the correct bracket for the bottom and I had just replaced the headers with the stock exhaust manifolds, so I had the holes in the front of the manifold to bolt the bracket to. So, I commenced to change the alt. location. Nothing fit. If I bolted it to the exhaust manifold then the alt. wasn't aligned with the pulley correctly and the other end didn't match anything on the water pump or the head or where ever it should have bolted. SO, my question is: Does anyone have a photo of the alt. mounted correctly on the drivers side and the way that the bracket bolts to the exhaust and to the other points on the engine? It looks like it should be a simple installation, but I must be missing something. Any one got any suggestions??

Re: alternator mounting problems
Small or big block?
What kind of manifolds? Short or long water pump?

Re: alternator mounting problems
Sorry! It is a small block 327 with the stock 67 ram horn exhaust manifolds. Long water pump.

Re: alternator mounting problems
My 68 327 has the short water pump, and I think yours should as well?
Here are some pics of my stock bracket set up, and it works perfectly. The lower mounting bracket was easy to find, but the upper one took some searching. Since I found that they are not all the same, but if you find the one that looks like mine you will be good to go. Pay attention to the shape of the upper part of that bracket, kinda looks like a hockey stick?

Re: alternator mounting problems
the water pump is the problem.

Re: alternator mounting problems
No pictures but I had a similar set-up to yours when I added headers a few years ago. A slotted, curved bar goes from a bolt hole on the front of the stock intake to the top of the alternator and if I remember correctly there was a cylindrical spacer between the alternator and the exhaust manifold at the pivot point. The crank pulley has three grooves with the water pump and alternator sharing the groove closest to the engine. I'll check my assembly manual and see if there is a picture.

Re: alternator mounting problems
Whooops! Took too long post. I see there are some photos already. Mine looked more like the first photos. I think Chevy may have added some brackets from 67 to 68. Mine is short water pump as well.

Re: alternator mounting problems
I found the hardware for my old alternator mount. The pivot bolt goes through the alternator and into the exhaust manifold. It is a long bolt with two spacers. I think the alternator mounted between the two spacers.

Here are some of mine. It's a 305 now but I used the brackets off my 307.

Re: alternator mounting problems
Those last photos show a head mounted alt. This was only on the later trucks 69 or 70+ IIRC.
Your 67 should have manifold mounted alt with the adj arm on the waterpump like the first couple pics show. There should be no holes in the heads to even bolt up an alt. You have the wrong pump for that year. Thats what is causing your belts to not line up.

Re: alternator mounting problems
Here's what I had to do. Mount it low. On the '67 283, there are only two holes in the block. I only have the pivot bracket and the hockey stick. Looks like there should have been a third piece back to the waterpump bolt.
