Ok i know there are a lot of posts about A/C but they dont answer my questions. My dad says that the r12 refridgerant is just about non existant? If thats true how do i convert?

R12 is difficult to get but it can be found its just expensive.
You can get kits to convert to R134. Try some of the vendors that support this site.

I cant seem to find anything on here about a kit or anything. How much do you think it would cost?

I just looked at early classic & american classic one had the POA the other the conversion kit.

r-12 is still available. but Most states if not all require a license to purchase it. If you are doing a new system use the r134a. If you just need a can or so to get your system to work properly take it some where to get it charged or find someone who can get it for you.

Its the feds... not the states.
It has not been produced since the early 90's, and is VERY expensive.

you can buy a kit at any parts store.
I recomend having it done by a pro since you don't have the tools to do it right.

Adjust your POA. (Link above).
Replace all the O-rings.
Install a new receiver dryer.
Evacuate the system.
Fill with R134a.

Done.

Thanks guys. I havent read that link yet but could i just put it all together like i would to run r12 can i just take it somewhere and they can switch it over? if so how much would that run me?

I'm certainly no expert,but wouldn't you have to include in the above list;

Change the low and high side fittings or add adapters so that the 134 charging connecters fit.

Add correct amount of refrigerant oil compatible with R134.

Add High side cut-out.
