It's all about the $$$

No I'm not rich just looking at diff. options. So has anyone figurged out how much they have invested in just your suspention packages. For ex. drop crossmember, strong arms, drop spindles, bags, plus your rear set up like air link, c-notch or whatever you have.

Re: It's all about the $$$

I might be wrong, but I believe a package could be built for $3,000-5,000 easy, but there again it depends on the types of bags, arms, spindles, air mgmt,..... you choose.

IIRC, the front/rear DM will run you around $2,000 alone.

Re: It's all about the $$$

My total keeps rising every time PorterBuilt releases a new product. I enjoy new parts, but I hope it stops, at least long enough for me to finish my chasis.

Re: It's all about the $$$

It can all really depend on the products involved. Personally, I don't mind dropping the extra money on something that I KNOW is a quality product. My front suspension, at last count, will be somewhere in the $3k range, and that's without air. My rear suspension si still undecided but that decision is based heavily on my front suspension and how it turns out. Initial guesses put it at anywhere from $1300 to $3k; without air management.

I'm also including the price of new brakes, powdercoating, and hardware.

Re: It's all about the $$$

These trucks are cheap to build compared to some rockcrawlers I've helped build. When you do a four-link and each heim joint costs $150 and you need 16 just for the links front and rear, not including the link material, the steering links, 14" remote res coilovers, etc. A few grand into an air ride setup is a bargain!

Set a personal budget for what you want to spend, and double it.

In my case I usually need to triple it, because I'm anal.

Re: It's all about the $$$

If you search through this forum for budget or "how much" you'll find several posts with info on how much builds cost including a nice post by Porterbilt about how to build a "budget" dropmember front.

One thing I have done is piece my setup together. I at one point had a dropmember, ECE trailing arms, X-drop crossmember, the 6-lug cross drilled brake setup w/ drop spindles, bags, power rack, steering U-joints, etc for the front and just needed bags for the rear and had only 2500 into it by buying a package deal from a guy who abandoned his build and selling some other parts off of the package. Now, I sold most of the higher dollar components to fund other aspects of my truck. I've been slowly buying parts I need to bag the truck "on the cheap" Have spent 475 total on 4 RE-7 bags, a chrome 5-gallon air tank, 7-switch chrome control box, Viar Dual 380C pack, 2" drop blocks, shock relocators, and drop spindles. Everything is new, I just picked it all up off craigslist or ebay for good deals. I don't always win the auction or buy the part off craigslist because I set a limit for myself that's well under retail. It's the only way I can afford to have half of the things I want for my truck.

Agree. If you do it right with the right parts it will always cost more then you originally planned.

C4 DM: 2800-3k with coilovers, no air.

Ditto, I've spent over twice what I paid for my truck on suspension parts and haven't even gotten shocks on it or finished the frame work yet. And there's already plans to rebuild the rear because I'm not happy with the way the asthetics turned out.
