New Guy 53 GMC

Hi
I am in the planning stages of my first build. I just got a 53 GMC 9430 that needs a lot of attention. From what I have read so far on a lot of other threads, the s 10 conversion is one of the best ways to go. Though it seems like everyone else has a 3100. I was wondering if anyone new if the 9430 was a different size or if I will encounter any other problems with this swap?
I must say that I was very surprised as to how many items are still widely available. I run a Napa in Toronto and have managed to source a lot of stuff through my regular suppliers. Though I am still waiting on my LMC catalogue to arrive in the mail.
I can't wait to get started!

Welcome to the board! You might check with Stovebolt.com they are stock truck orientated and probably have a tech section on IDing your truck and basics wheelbase, etc. information. A factory assembly manual will have detailed dimensions of everything, crossmember locations, cab mounts, spring shackles, etc. so you can compare between models and the S10. Also, I would get more catalogs than LMC, especially for body parts, seems to be problems with fit of the stuff they are supplying.

Re: New Guy 53 GMC

Welcome. There are lots of parts available. The only complaint is that some of them don't fit as well as the original. I just knew that going in and just dealt with it. Most everything I have gotten fits ok with just a little work. I try to use as much of the original parts as I could. I did the Mustang 2 setup and a 9" with after market leafs in the rear. Check out my build thread and if you need anything let me know.

Bernie
