Re: Rearend question

As already mentioned in this thread, you are pretty much going to measure from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. So if thats a rear with disk breaks, then it the edge of the rotor where the studs poke through the holes. Drum breaks, same thing..

Re: Rearend question

Measure back plate to back plate or if disc measure the back side of the rotor to the backside of the other rotor. needs to be between 58-62 inches, mine is 60 back to back plate which comes out with the rearend hubs centered in the wheel well.... then measure your offset to order your wheels...

Look for a 70-73 or so F150 ford truck they had 9-inch rearends in them that are 60 inches from back plate to back plate with drums, big axle tubes, limited slip yokes, gear ratio of 3.76 or so, with 31splines brute tough...and it will take the ponies if your putting in a 400 hp LS-1 motor.

Priced do vary a lot depending on where you are located at and the supply of doner vehicles in the local yards.

I found out years ago that you never tell a guy in a wrecking yard that you are looking for parts for a hotrod or modified truck project unless he he already knows you and what you are building. It has always seemed to me that the price goes up when I am looking for a part to put on my hotrod rather than a similar repair part for the daily driver. I think that so may guys are looking for these Explorer rear ends for projects right now that it has driven prices up too.
