Windsheild / Rear Window replacement

Is anyone familiar with the method on PROPERLY replacing a windshield or rear window in one of these trucks ? A glass shop that I had do the windshield previously reused an old gasket that should have been replaced, and to top it off the gasket leaked and made noises as I went over bumps.

I have brand new front and rear window gaskets. It's come time to have them put in but the glass shops around here have left me a little scared, so I'd like to know what the proper procedure is. Another thing I wasn't sure of is if the gaskets go in dry or is some kind of sealant is required. Is it really that hard of a job ?

I just had my front and rear windows done. The glass man cursed me for having new gaskets for the windows. It took some time to get the front gasket to fit the opening and then the glass went in without a problem. The rear you have to put the gasket on the glass and put a cotton rope (not the yellow nylon crap) in the grove. It will take two people to install the windows so you dont damage the paint. I'm guessing the glass place didn't want to fight the new gaskets so they used the old ones. My front windshield gasket took some time to fit the opening after the glass was installed. I hope this info helps.

ive used dish soap on mine to get the rear to fit.. the front and rear are the same principle although ive not done a front windshield yet ive done several of the rears tho replacing solid glass with sliders

It pretty much spells out the procedure for our trucks. I used new rubber from LMC when I replaced my windshield and it was a snap to install. The rear window is even easier and I did it myself, although two people working together is less of a hassle. Mark the location of the rear view mirror bracket on the outside of the new windshield with a bright-colored grease pencil. I recommend going to a glass shop and have them remount the rear view mirror bracket on the windshield. Glass shops use a glue far superior to what you can buy at the local auto parts store. Be sure to spread out a blanket on the hood and one on the dash to protect the paint and keep any debris from clogging up the defroster vent and speaker holes. An ounce of prevention...
