has anyone put an automatic behind a strait 6

I've got a 50' gmc with a 228 and would like to know if it's possible to put an automatic tranny in it but not a hydramatic. I drive low boys and quad axles all day. I get sick of jammin gears all day. Any help or links would be great. Thanks for all your help as always

Re: has anyone put an automatic behind a strait 6

When I was considering putting an auto behind the 235 that came in my apache I looked at these guys: http://www.transmissionadapters.com/index.htm
for adaptor plates to get a th350 in there.
I have to admit though, I know nothing about the GMC 228 so I don't know if this is much help...
