You might kick yourself later on if you don't go ahead and weld it up now.

If you don't clean and weld now, you will murder youself when rust forms there later. Sealer is temporary, welds are forever.

I cut mine open and removed about a 1/4 inch then welded it back up to round off the back of the cab

Re: what are u guys doing about the seam on the back of cab
I've got a 68 and a 69. Up until a few years ago, both had the original paint without any rust.
I'm one of those that like the original design look so, I say if it isn't rusted just seal it and with a good paint job you shouldn't have any trouble. Check with the paint shop to see what sealer they recommend. Last edited by 68gmsee; 07-31-2009 at 03:13 PM. |

Re: what are u guys doing about the seam on the back of cab
I just finished mine up as well. Cleaned it really good and put seam sealer in it. I guess I'll find out if that was the best thing to do or not.

Re: what are u guys doing about the seam on the back of cab
the correct way to do the seam is
#1 clean it out to the bare shiny metal #2 primer it GOOD with urethane or epoxy primer #3 after the primer cure's seam seal it with sandable auto body seam sealer #4 after the seam sealer is dry sand it lightly to obtain a factory look it will last for year's !

Re: what are u guys doing about the seam on the back of cab
I`m cleaned and primed it.Now I will seal it and prime again.Weld them if you want a custom look, but I`ve never seen a cab with problems in this area the way the factory did it.

Re: what are u guys doing about the seam on the back of cab
I remember a post awhile back where someone took the seam out of a cab. I want to say that it was Porterbuilt, but it was so long ago I can't remember for sure. I will try to find the post.
