Removing Trim on 87 Silverado

Hey guys am new to the fourm and just got a 87 silverado it needs some work a little rust on the hood but i first want to remove the trim and sand that rust off and was wondering how hard is it to remove the trim. I know you take the trim off fill the holes and sand then paint but need to know is this a at home project and what products should i use to fill the holes thanks plan to post some pics soon

Welcome to the board, and

Taking the trim off is really a pretty easy project. Most of the side trim is adhesive, with only a few spots that are actually mounted with a fastener. As far as filling the holes. It depends on your knowledge of products. You could use body filler, or you could weld up the holes.

right now it just look like an old man truck me and my dad traded cars for when i go to college i had a 63 impala and he has or i have a 87 silverado. I want to bag it and maybe bodydrop, and paint it john deer blitz black. shave it put a roll pan the whole thing. so cool i will just weld the holes in i got a welder at my house. Now for the window tint right now its purple faded and want to remove it do you think a 10$ kit from auto zones would work?

I'm sure it will work, but you may get better results, and longer life out of one done by a tint shop.

That purple faded crap that's on there was probably once a $10.00 kit too.

If it were me, I would remove the faded tint and save to have it done by a professional. The difference in results, as well as the quality of product used is well worth it.

sorry you guys am not saying i want to buy window tint for 10$ i was asking if the auto zone tint removal kit for 10$ worked i want to get this purple crap off. If not how is the best way to remove the tint thanks

oh if your having the tint done somewhere they willl take it off and put new on for u

I wouldn't waste money on a tint removal kit all you need is some amonia/water mix and a razor blade.

I think you can just start pulling it off. I think the clips will just pop out too. I think the only parts that are clipped on are the corner pieces on the bed where it goes around to the tailgate.

This is true. You can pretty much just pull it off, although I poked/cut the adhesive as I was pulling.

The only parts that are clipped are the corner pieces, as John said. You will need to remove the tail light lens and housing to get access; there is one threaded fastener and one clip.

If you are putting new trim back on you might want to measure (or somehow mark) where the old trim was so that the new stuff can go back on in the same spot.
