LP Pistons for 292 ??

This is for you Inline guys that have built a 292. Are the LP pistons that you read about still available out there somewhere? Anyone bought any lately?
I have a good block and am blueprinting it out...pistons and final compression ( i have to cc my head still) are the last pieces to the puzzle. I don't need more than 9.5 to 1 and don't want to spend a fortune on custom flat top pistons.

OK, I'll answer my own question.
Yes, they are. I was able to substitute them in a engine kit from Sealed Power. I think the 980P number is correct, and available in standard sizes up to .060 over, which is what my block is at.

I'm hiding outside of Gainesville. I've had this truck since 84, it has sat in storage the last few years, and I've been disassembling for almost a year!!
My 292 block and crank is at Wayne Calverts now.
Frame goes to sandblaster and cab is going to be dipped at Metal Rehab in Arlington. Hope to get them both gone this week.

What are you running on your 292 as far as aftermarket stuff?
Hey, does that Hooters still have a car show night?

I had a shop in Lewisville rebuild my 292 completely stock. But my 250ci in my '64 will get hot-rodded. Wayne Calvert's is supposed to be one of the best around. Eventually I'd like to have them put big valves and lump ports in my 250ci head.

I think Hooters still has a carshow on the last Thursday of every month, but I'm not exactly sure.

For future reference, here are the 2 "stock" "cast" "affordable" pistons for the 292. Beyond this, your looking at pricey, forged, and higher compression, ie, racing applications.

On the left, for propane-the 980P from Sealed Power, on the right, for gasoline OEM stock.
Note the LP piston dish is only half as deep as the stock.

It seems odd that the LP piston would be less volume than the gasoline one, as my understanding is that LP gas displaces O2 thus reducing the energy per stroke, perhaps the higher compression makes up for it and thats why.

Wow, Wayne Calvert is doing your engine huh ? That's bragging rights for a man with a 292. I don't know if you are into automotive history, but Wayne's name is all over the pages of hot rodding yesteryear. He's one of the greats.

Kevin,
Wayne and Randy are the closest quality machine shop to me (near Gainesville). They machined my camaro 327 about 6 years ago, I assembled, should be totally bulletproof and will last another 40 years.

When I showed up with a 292 it caused them pause...I could tell I was the first to show up with a 292 in a long time!
It's much cheaper to go the small block route, theres not many of us willing to pay a little more to run an old school setup.

Glen Self (SelfRacing.com) is not far over in Durant, OK, and a legend with the I6, but I can't get them to answer my emails.

Also, thanks for all the good advice you give out on this board!

Oh, and yeah, I'm into history! (I'm old enough now to have lived through some) And thats one reason I went to Calverts.
I grew up in Wichita Falls following Lloyd Ruby (who just passed this spring) and Eddie Hill. We got a Honda Z50 minibike Name:  z50.jpg

Size:  5.1 KBEddie Hills Fun Cycles about 1970. Eddie was racing bikes then, and had a little person employee that raced a Z50 with 72 cc cylinder. Eddie had personally ground a one-off domed piston and high lift cam, to go with a racing intake and big carb, and open megaphone pipe.
We later bought those parts and installed on our minibike, and that little bike would wheelie hitting 3rd gear. We paced it with a car once. 53 mph! which was crazy fast at that time. Still have the piston around the garage somewhere.

I'm going to apologize right off because I'm trying to get information and I don't know how to start a new thread. I recently found some pistons in my shed that belonged to my partner who just passed. I've tried googling the number on the box (980-P .060) and the closest I can come is that they go to a 292? but the tops are different then any of the pics I see online. I would be grateful if anyone could tell me what these go to or what they're "officially" called. Gonna try to attach pictures. Thanks in advance for any help.

Those are not LP. Those are some high compression domes. Check with the guys on Inliners.org
