Correct. I want to say it was RPO P13 or something like that (I meant to check the SPID label and forgot). We always put the tire up in the bed where it can stay clean, plus it allows some more room for my hidden trailer hitch....(did I mention I have a hidden trailer hitch on my truck?).

You can see the bracket in this picture:



I even retrofit a carrier into my stepside, even though it was not available as a production option (you might recall side mounted spares on stepsides, mounted on the outside of the fender):

I gots me one of those too. I just need to figure out how to mount the tire to the post and I will be golden! I think its a lot better then the under the bed kind.

Mine's a long stud with a rectangular block on one end, but I think it's homemade. It is threaded on both ends, the block end is coarse thread and the wheel lug end is fine thread (to match the lug nut). It would be pretty easy to make, if you were so inclined...

I seem to recall the production bolt was a carriage looking bolt, with a round head and a square underneath. In fact, I wonder if you could use a box bolt of the correct length (and just put a coarse thread nut on it rather than a lug nut). Hmm...

Nope - what you see is what you get. I need to put the chrome trim back on, I was going to freshen up the original Fuel Injection badge (more on that later) and I have ordered the CHEVROLET decal set. I figured I could just install it over the smooth portion (where the embossed letters were originally) and nobody but you and I would notice...

Sometimes I surprise even myself! I checked the SPID label and it is, in fact, RPO P13 for the sidemounted spare.

With the addition of the molding across the tailgate, the exterior of the truck is essentially done (the exception being the inside of the pickup box).

Does this picture make my butt look big?





I was "full speed ahead" trimming out the tailgate as it was in production, with the Fuel Injection badge and the CHEVROLET lettering, but after seeing it smooth I think I might just leave it as is...

Hi Keith, and welcome. That really was enjoyable to read. I too had a big smile on my face the whole time. What an amazing experience to watch your own vehicle be conceived from start to finish, and to still have the truck adds to the unique history. Looks Great Keith! hey, just something I noticed and I don't know if it suppose to be that way or not. but something about your molding on the rear does not look right. you can tell in pic one and two that at least on the driver side. as it wraps around the bed it looks like one side is slightly higher then the other. you can tell by following the gap of the light. and also, in the middle of the tale gate band looks like its sagging in the middle. again, just looking at the gaps of the molding to the body lines. maybe its the camera! Again, not raging just something I thought you would like to know. after all, that is what were here for. I love this thread and all your knowledge too! I am going to take a lot of this info and get my truck fixed up. whenever I get a job. lol you have done a great job!

Those are repop corner pieces and they don't fit quite right. They "kick" at an angle, so when viewed from the rear they are cocked a bit. Not sure what to do about it other than (a) grind the inside of the top radius a bit or (b) put the old grundgy ones back on.

As far as the tailgate molding - I think that might be the camera. I'll take a look at it in real life when I get outside.

Nope - you're right....it's got a sag in the middle.

Not sure how that happened, since I used a straightedge. Either I (we, since the kids helped) didn't get it seated right or the straightedge has got a dip in it.

I think I'll wait and see if anybody else notices...
