Help: 1974 Full time 4x4

Help me understand about 4x4 full time in a 1974 Blazer.
Does it really hurt the mileage when it's full time.
Anything you all could tell me would help.Did all 73 thru 75 have full time?
I'm looking at a 74 Blazer now but I need some expert opinions.

Thanks

Re: Help: 1974 Full time 4x4

Full time 4x4 does reduce mileage and increase tire wear. It's no big deal to install a part time kit and manual lockout hubs. The square body 4x4 light truck line with automatic transmission had the full time up through 1979.

They can be bought from most any 4x4 parts place, Summit Racing, and some auto parts stores. I have always used the kits with complete shaft replacement for myself,(best for serious wheeling), but have installed some of the spider gear kits for others. Mile Marker is a common choice for these nowadays.
Here's a link to a review from another site.
