I don't know, but I think it's a better idea to have a set of wheels/tires for the strip, and just switch them when you get there. Also, just noticed you have 17's, so now I really have no idea.... sorry for the confusion

Have you checked out BFG Drag Radials?

I'll check into those. I'm basically trying to determine if I should build this truck to be a street/strip DD or just build a nice DD & buy something else to build for racing. I don't want anything faster then low 12's. That's where my question originated.

If its going to be a huge pain in the butt to make the truck a 12 sec DD then I was going to just make it a nice DD & shop for something else later. Traction seems to be the huge issue to overcome with a truck build.

Re: Any 12 sec daily drivers

Don't have any track times, but to me, even tho I am curious, it really doesn't matter. After a 35 year wait, a rather large investment in the engine, and in this late stage of my life, we would rather cruise and enjoy than race her and risk breakage at any given moment. She is driven daily with some road trips, usually not more than 120 miles round trip.

Re: Any 12 sec daily drivers

Drag radials were designed for automatic transmissions.....don't waste your time/money on a drag radial if you have 3 pedals. Not saying it can't be done, but it's HARD. Everything else has to be dead nuts to make 'em work. Bias ply's are the ticket with a clutch. ET Streets are DOT approved.....I dead hook with them on 6800rpm clutch dumps in my camaro.

Re: Any 12 sec daily drivers

My truck was a daily driver when I ran 12.8 a while back. It was a 82 C10 with a stock 6.0L with a small cam. I had tons of problems with the truck at the time, so I'm sure it could have gone much faster.
There's guys running 12's in extended cab trucks with 5.3L engines...and still daily driving them. So you may want to check out these Gen3/4 motors.

Not to change the direction of the thread but I found this pretty interesting. Are drag radials stickier than a street tire, but they still won't hold the shock of a clutch dump and go up in smoke ? Whereas bias ply slicks will still hook even under the shock of a clutch dump ?

It's not the compound as much as it is the construction of the tire itself. MT drag radials were design to have a constant load applied to them (auto w/footbrake). They do not like to be shocked and once the tire unloads it doesn't recover well. The softer sidewall and construction of a bias ply tire is much more suited to handle a shock (ie, clutch or transbrake) and is more forgiving to mediocre track prep and/or less than optimal suspension setup.

Like I said though, there are people that make drag radials work in stickshift/transbrake cars and are going FAST with them. With a well prepped track and optimally set up car they'll work just as good as a bias ply, and likely will end up being a little faster on the big end.

My personal experience with DR's and clutch dumps is they would dead hook and then immediately unload, followed by wicked tire shake. Got sick of doing it the hard way and went to ET Streets, gets outta the hole good now.

Re: Any 12 sec daily drivers

It is definitely tough with DR and a stick. A DR will hook up better then a standard radial. If you are only worried about going fast in a striaght line don't bother with DR.

You have the same problem I do...too much torque, not enough tire! A 275 50 R 17 is about 11 in wide and 28 tall. I run 285 60 R 17's which are 11 wide and 31 in tall. You can probably find something like these which do just about as well as a slick but they are D.O.T. legal :
