Whats the ride height with a Camaro subframe on a 59 short fleetside

I have a 59 short box fleetside and I’m just trying to decide where to install the front Camaro clip. I have looked at lots of build threads just can't seem to find out for sure the answer to my question. With a Camaro front clip swap there looks to be several ways to install it. Two of the more common ways are to basically install it flush with the top of the stock frame or to install the Camaro frame rails under the stock frame. I like the install with the Camaro frame flush with the top of the stock frame, but I can’t seem to find out what the ride height will be if I use the stock Camaro springs and spindles as a starting point. Does anybody have pictures of either install? Also could you tell me if the rear axle is above the springs or below the springs?
Thanks

When I did my 56 I set the sub under the stock frame. It gives it a little more drop. My rockers sat about 4" off the ground after cutting 1 coil off the springs and removing 2 leafs, also setting the diff on top the springs with 3" blocks. You also need to c notch the rear frame. You might be able to see the stance on my build thread, 56 project I don't know how to link it so you'll have to look for it. To bad your so far away I'm looking for someone to take my old leaf springs and drop blocks. I changed mine over to air bags and am tired of moving them from one side of the shop to the other.

It's not the same year, but I did a 54 with the sub-frame level at the top and it gave a pretty much stock ride height.

It also depends on the springs. Is it a 6 cyl sub frame? What engine are you puting in? Big block with 6 cyl springs will sit alot lower.

It''s 1980 Camaro v-8 subframe, thinking of a small block 400 with a 700r4 trans. I'm looking for a little lower ride but not extreme. Hey guys thanks for the post so far, anybody got some pics of a flush mounted version?

Mine is flush mounted with the top of the frame. I did cut 1 coil from the springs. As far as the rear setup, I have mono leafs with the diff on top of them. Hope this helps, but also have a look at my build thread!

Hey guys great build threads you have. I did look at most of your threads before just didn't know the spec's on each truck to decide of you had coils cut or some other modifications. I'll have to start a thread when the time is right. Anybody else have any pics

FrenchBlue is your rear axle below the spring or above?

Re: Whats the ride height with a Camaro subframe on a 59 short fleetside

Sorry I don't have a build thread yet.
I bought the coilover QA-1 conversion for the 80 trans-am subframe which i have installed under the frame. I have not gone through the full adjustment range yet but I have adjusted the springs up and down looking at the stance. I have been able to adjust the height up or down about 2 inches or so, again without even reaching the limits on the coilover threads.
I am going to start out with the springs centered since I figure that puts it close to stock geometry and then adjust as I get all the engine, fenders, etc. all put back together permanently.
If any of you guys go this route, splurge and buy the bearings for the springs to ride on, otherwise adjustment is a huge bear!

Have you thought about flush mounting the subframe and going the airbag route for height adjustment?

Yes I have thought about doing airbags but I don't like the real low look, so I feel it would be a waste of money
