Tinkering

I was screwing around with the truck today and FINALLY got my wipers off!!! YAY! I used a screwdriver and a hammer. I got my cowl off to clean the vent and lube the wiper linkage.

I decided while I'm under there, I may as well test the washer pump to see if it works. I took it out and wired it directly to the battery and it works. I hook a multimeter up the the power leads and turn on the ignition. -10 volts?!?!?!? Uhh... That isn't right! I switch the leads and it says a good constant 12 volts on when the ignition is on. WTF? The motor doesn't work when hooked up to the harness. Hmm.... so the wiper module is bad or the switch is bad. The more I think about it I think it is the switch. Guy at Smith Cheverolet said alot of 80's S-10s had to have the wiper switches replaced because they had this problem. A diode would fry and kill the switch. I need to replace it anyways - the chrome is wrinkled and bubbled.

I did find my ground strap to the engine. I actually have one - YAY! I also found that ground spade on the e-brake. DUH! It is huge! How did I miss it?

There is a little box on the firewall that has wires and a vacuum line going to it - is this the engine vacuum sensor? Maybe a cruise control thing? I'm just curious . . .

Directly under the steering column. Take off the plastic trim and the metal piece that is directly under the column. It looks like a little amp - it has a large silver heatsink on it so you can't miss it!

Cool, I had to move that out of the way while I was changing out my switch. Very easy to get to. Guess I'll try that next.

That is the only thing I think it can be now. New switch didn't work, washer pump works, and the only other thing hooked up to the wiper system is that module. I REALLY hope that is the problem so I can fix mine too!

Hey! I just notice I have 4.2 average posts a day - someone might think I'm a post whore like "other" people on this board. ::cough Dave cough:: Who could get 11??? They must be motor mouths (or in this case fast typers)

Unhappy

Tyler,
I hope you can get a better deal than I did for that wiper module if you are going to buy one.
I have the delay wipers and that was out when I bought my truck.
I for one don't like to have something on a vehicle and it not be working....ANYTHING.
I went down to the local Chevy place and got a new module and it was like $65 or so.
I thought that was a little high for a "simple" circuit board with a .03 cent 555 timer on it.

BTW: I have a average of 12.6 posts a day.
Does that mean I should go look for a typing job?

It' not that hard to get a lot of post in a day.

By the time you go thru the emails received and new posts it adds up very quickly.

OOOOOOOOUCH INDEED!!!!!
Get your butt to eBay and get one!!!!!
They are MUUUUCH cheaper there and probably only one company makes them.
I put a '87-9? on my '84 'cause mine did not work when I bought it.
It was a breeze to install and only cost me around $40.
GO NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOLOLOLOL
