84 3/4 truck parts that are usable for a 66?

My buddy has a 3/4 ton '84 at his buddys house. He told me I can go over there and take what I need from it. Now, I want to grab the lower control arms, spindles, calipers, power steering box, ps pump, ps hoses, idler arm, and the distributor. Brake booster is all ready gone

My questions to you are:

Will my list of grabs work on our trucks?

Anything else that would be a worthwhile swap for our trucks?

The truck is a 8-lug, can I buy 6-lug rotors for them and slap them on that spindle?

Am I forgetting something?

Any help and opinions are appreciated.

Thanks.

I am pretty sure that the 3/4 ton spindles are different, the steering box will work with an adaptor

I have heard and read that we can use 73-87 lower control arms for disc brake swaps. If we can't use the spindles, which ones would you use than?

rotors or a light dudy 3/4 ton they were six lug
upper and lower ball joints
outer tie rod ends
brake hoses
calipers

What makes this work is the 88 up ball joint presses into the 73 up 3/4 ton lower a-arm
Yuo will have to cut about a 1/4 inch off the new tie rod ends to get proper alignment.
Dont forget abought 88-91 square body stuff it all interchanges.
good luck

classic performance products has six lug rotors that go on 73-87 1 1/4 inch spindles about $120 for a pair.
This should help.

It does. But, I thought I have read that the upper control arms are the same from 6x or so, thru 87??????

OK, after reading a ton of threads (again), I think I have the front figured out the front disc swap for 6 lug discs. Hre is what I came up with.

66 1/2 ton UCA.
Change LCA to 3/4 ton from the 84.
Get Spindles, Calipers, Upper and Lower ball joints, Outer Tierods; 1 1/4" 6 lug rotors; all from 88 & up.

Now, what parts do i need to upgrade to the power steering from the 84?

6X-72 have the threaded rubber-lined steel sleeve bushing. 73-87 have the press-fit rubber bushing (no steel sleeve). BJ's interchange on 6X-87 uppers so you just need the correct BJ for the spindle & it can be bolted on to any upper a-arm within those model years.

The 6 lug rotors you need are for the 7200GVW 2500 series. IIRC the '88 & '89 are one part number and the '90 + are a different number. The spindles can be the from 1500 with the 1.250 rotors or the 7200GVW 2500. You will need some different inner tierods also, the ES2020's

As for the steering box, I sell the adapter plates. See the link in my sig.

Very cool. Thank you. What exactly is GVW? I am guessing gross vehicle weight?

That is what I thought. Thank you for clearing that up for me.

Would it be wise just to take the whole steering assembly off the 84' or do I just need the pitman and idler arm? Or are they the same as the 66'?

Yes that is correct. The 7200GVW is the light duty 2500 series (3/4 ton) which have the 6 lug discs in a 2wd version

I would switch over to the '84 steering linkage. It could be slightly heavier, plus that would make it a little easier to remember when the time comes that you need to replace worn parts.

Re: 84 3/4 truck parts that are usable for a 66?

another option is you can remove the complete front crossmember from the frame as a complete assemby with suspension. and it will bolt right up under your pick up. then you have the complete new suspension and steering. you only have to mount the steering gear and idler arm to the frame. This is alot easier with the engine removed because the engine mounts are bolted to this crossmember also.

Re: 84 3/4 truck parts that are usable for a 66?

ok, one more question. I have 63-72 3" lowering springs for the front. If I was to swap to the 3/4 front end, would I still be able to use these springs?

Thanks.
