'69 Disk Brakes With Stock Parts
Hello, I have been thinking about this one for a while, I think it will work but wanted to run it by all of you to see what you thought. I have a 69 C-10 with drums currently. I want to put disks up front but want to use stock parts that I can get at any Auto Parts Store, meaning, all Chevy. I have a set of front spindles from a '76 half ton, going to use my drag link but will install all new tie rod ends from the '76 as the original disk brake ends are a little stronger than the drum ends. I will use the upper and lower ball joints for the 76 in my 69 A-arms. I will also use the calipers from the 76. Going to use the brake booster from a 70 and the Master Cylinder from a 71 or 72 with disks. Using the Proportioning valve from either the 76 or the 71-72, they should be similar. I have checked the tie rod ends and the ball joints and have found no reason they won't fit my 69 just fine, as all the critical points and threads are the same. I will also have to use brake hoses for 71-76 with disks. I then am thinking about using 95 or so Heavy half 6 bolt disks. The wheel bearings are the same part number as the 76, the only thing I haven't been able to check is the spacing of the wheel bearings to see if they will mount to the 76 spindles. The 95 disks use the same brake pads as the 76 so they can't be that different. I will simply knock out the metric studs and install 1/2 in studs, this will also require me to redrill the rear axle flanges for 1/2 inch studs. Anyone see any reason whey this may not work? Anyone tried this before? I am just trying to keep from using a special made part that may not be available if some company goes out of business. Thanks in advance for any replies.
Nathan

Sorry everyone, just noticed the FAQ's article on this subject, don't remember seeing it the last time I was here. Anyway, thanks for being patient with my dumb questions.
Later Nathan
