It was your "Pabst" post that turned me on to those Tru-Rams.

You guys are giving me plenty of options to research!!!

Scot_Douglas,

Since you have a 377 Stroker engine, what are the specs on your engine? Cam lift/duriation,, Heads, Etc.
I know it's a 400 block with a 350 crank. . .destroked.
The exhaust will always sound different acording to how your engine is setup and tuned as well as the headders lenghts, X-Pipe -and/or- H Pipe, size of exhaust tubes, back pressure etc. I am having exhaust cut out put on my truck as well to strike fear in the local rice burners......

The results in HP order:
1.Flowtech Warlock (open) 374.2 hp/ 333.1 tq
2.Bassani Real Street 373.7 hp/ 333.8 tq
3.Hooker Maxflow 373.5 hp/ 333 tq
4.Borla XS 373.3 hp/ 332.6 tq
5.Magnaflow 372.8 / 332.5 tq
6.MAC 372.3 hp / 331.5 tq
7.Flowtech Afterburner 372.3 hp/ 330.1 tq
8.Hooker Aerochamber 372.1 hp/ 330.4 tq
9.Bassani 372 hp/ 333.5 tq
10.Spintech 371.6 hp/ 332.2 tq
11.Edelbrock Performer RPM 370.9 hp / 331.3 tq
12.Borla XR1 370 hp/ 334 tq
13.Flowtech Terminator 369.5 hp / 331.3 tq
14.Dynomax Ultra Flo 369.4 / 333.2 tq

Re: Opinions on best sounding exhaust???

I just put on a pair of 2.5" Thrush welded mufflers and they sound great! Just like I think a muscle car should sound like. I have the mufflers just behind the cab and they dump out the sides before the rear tires. At first they are very loud and deep but after you run about 100 miles on them they mellow out and give a great sound. And they are only $29.99 each from summit! Beats the price of flowmaster and magnaflow for a sound that I think is much better.

This is all I know about the motor until I tear into it to give it a good once-over:

- 350 block STD bore and a 400 crank machined to fit the 350 journals.
- 5.565" rods and STD 350 pistons
- 4 bolt main block with fresh cylinder hone
- Hydraulic flat tappet cam, 224 Int/ 234 Exh @ 0.050" lift
- All new bearings and gaskets.
- Heads are GM 882 casting with mild port and polish job,76cc. 9.5:1 compression, with 2.02/1.60 valves
- Intake is gasket matched to the heads

Re: Opinions on best sounding exhaust???

Please no Flowmasters. Longtubes, 2.5" piping, x-pipe and a straight through muffler. Magnaflow, Dynomax Ultrad Flo, and most Borlas are straight through. This type is quiet when cruising without resonation and really open up with the throttle.

Re: Opinions on best sounding exhaust???

u can still get the 40 series, just make sure that you get the delta flow 40 series, they are made specifically to keep down interior resonation...and as long as your gonna have tail pipes behind your muffler there should be even less cab noise/resonation....im surprised no one said this before now

Re: Opinions on best sounding exhaust???

+1 on the brockman mellotones, if you like the 60's sound. They can build you a pair to order, glass or steel packed, and in various body lengths. Muffler placement is a key with these though. The short body lengths are real popular with the traditional hot rodders who like the off-throttle rap.... I've heard reversing them increases this also. The longer body lengths are nice and mellow with little to no rap... it's a unique sound that doesn't get annoying.

Re: Opinions on best sounding exhaust???

I may be mistaken, but i'm pretty sure those Smitheys have tiny little cores that will choke a 383. Bad. If you want the glasspack sound, look into the "walker/dynomax/thrush" style. They have a straight through perforated core with no louvers and will give you that flappy raspy tone. Here are some, they come in alot of pipe sizes and lengths. Cheap too. http://www.summitracing.com/search/S...rush+glasspack
They have stainless ones aswell on that link

Ditto. I have the exact same set-up on my '66 C20. My pipes exit out at 90 deg just past the rear wheels.

Nice mellow sound in the cab, but I have gotten lots of complements from my friends at work on the deep throaty sound. They tell me my truck "sounds fast".
