3spd to 4L60E Shifter ideas
I am putting a 5.3 and 4l60e in a 68 3 speed. A budget truck.
How has anyone adapted the 4l60e? I would rather not buy an ididit column for 600 bucks. I am open to either adapting the column 3 spd, retrofitting an automatic column shift, or putting in a floor shifter. Does anyone have pics of either? Will the gennie floor shifters clear a stock bench seat?

I believe they sell an auoto OD lens for the tilt columns. I have read some people say it works but you can't shift into the lowest gear? I'll find out soon enough, starting my swap in the next couple/few weeks.

You can use a factory auto column but you'll need to buy a Lokar or Kugel shift arm kit to attach between the column and transmission.

I guess I will be posting an ad for a 67-72 auto column.

Re: 3spd to 4L60E Shifter ideas
It really depends what type of headers you are running and the amount of room you have. Even if you have the space, the factory linkage only works OK with the newer transmissions. It's well worth the $60 to buy the shift linkage kit. You will save yourself time and headaches and you can install the kit in less than an hour. Here's a couple of pictures.

Re: 3spd to 4L60E Shifter ideas
I plan on using exhaust manifolds so clearance should be no different than now in that respect.
Is there a bend in that linkage as it goes down to the transmission? You wouldn't happen to have a pic from the front where it goes down the firewall? I am probably still going to try making the factory linkage to work, if for nothing else to see if I can? I've also seen the cable setups if you have bad clearance issues. |
