Re: CL ad in tacoma washington

Washington Venders need to beware, the state patrol is going to start monitering Craigslist and paying visits to people selling used parts. They are cracking down on people selling used parts in Washington. I know of 3 venders including myself (3 times and 1 phone call) that have been unexpectedly visited over the last (in my case) couple of years. I also know in my case that it only takes them about 24 hours once a different part makes it to my shop to visit me. Even though the parts are for my projects. This is why I quit buying trucks for parts, even for my own projects. I can't get rid of the left overs without being levied a heavy fine. WES

Re: CL ad in tacoma washington

so your saying that your getting fined for parting out a truck that you got for parts in the first place? That's not cool.

Getting fined for selling used parts. A new truck that gets parked in my parking area brings the state patrol out to investigate it. WES

Re: CL ad in tacoma washington

I don't know the exact reason why the crack down. I just know that the state of Washington is doing it. They are not busting everyone, just the people who are selling used parts for an income of some sort. If you are restoring a vehicle in this state you are alowed up to 2 parts vehicles for the use of parts for your project. Additionaly you may trade some of the said parts that you are not going to use. This is one place that the law gets gray, the law does not state what you have to trade the parts for. However you may not buy any vehicles for the express purpouse of parting them out for money without the propper licences, permits and zoning laws. Witch means your property has to be zoned for a wrecking yard and licences and permits would have to be purchased. I could be here all day trying to explain what it takes to get those and it is definetly not worth it even if you were able to get them. WES

Re: CL ad in tacoma washington

I agree. The first time the State patrol came out here it cost me 2 car trailers full of parts that went to the scrap metal yard. I didn't even make a penny on it. WES

So I'm guessing random used parts don't count for that? What do they do? Call you up like they want to buy parts then "bust" you?

Re: CL ad in tacoma washington

No, they will just show up at your doorstep. You will not get any warning when they are coming. The one istance that they called me was because they had come out to investigate a short bed fleetside bed that was standing on it's nose in front of my shop. I wasn't there when they got here, just someone who was watching my business while I ran errands. She explained that it was for a project of mine, but he wanted to hear that from me I guess. My guess is that they wanted to make sure that I knew that they were watching me. WES

Re: CL ad in tacoma washington

I wasn't trying to turn this thread into a state bashing thread. Just warning people of what was going on here and if you are selling used parts on craigslist, you have the potentual of the state patrol coming to pay you a visit. The laws are what they are, and the only way to change that is through other channels (legislative, petitions and etc.) I have found that getting angry about it only made it worse on me. So I just live with it for now. WES

Re: CL ad in tacoma washington

They send guys over here to try to buy parts from guys who have a stash of cars in their yard in an attempt to nail them for running unlicensed wrecking yards.

They were told that @#$% no none of these cars or parts are for sale and get the ##$%^ out of here and don't come back by one guy so many times that they finally left him alone. He didn't sell parts or cars to anyone at any time as he just was a horder. He did have a sale a while back and got rid of most of what he had though.

The other one is my neighbor to the south of me who has the big stash of old tin in his former barn yard. They would trade but wouldn't sell anything outright. I need to go check with him though as I have herd through the grapevine that he may be having a big sale to clear a lot of it out. His dad died and I think the family members would like what they feel is their share of their dad's estate.
One of my buddies hasn't been nailed yet but his day is coming as he does sell parts on a regular basis.

One of Wes's problems is that he is quite close to the state capitol and very easy for the powers that be to cruise by. He is pretty easy pickings for them and there may also be someone in the area pulling their chain. A big problem in this state is that there are way too many people spending way too much time sticking their noses in others business. That is usually for personal gain in one way or another. Read it as "I don't want that guy down there to have old trucks in his yard in front of his business because it might ruin my property values a mile up the road because anyone who has to come look at my overpriced lot or house has to drive past his place.

I live two miles out of town in the big middle of an 80 Acre field and my driveway is 400 ft long but the insurance lady who my mom was dealing with complained about my boat "because children might climb on it and get hurt". There are no children on the property, the closest child is 1/4 mile away across one of the major north south highways in the state with a constant stream of semis running up and down it but the townie insurance lady thought that the neighbor kids might climb on it so it shouldn't be there. You wonder how she got the job with such an obviously low IQ

I live on the rez on trust land so the state doesn't have much to do with me but I don't trade in used parts on a regular basis either. The last thing I had on craigslist was on there for free and I couldn't even give it away. I did give away the trans/transfer and the front clip (86 S-10 Blazer).

We do have a big problem with curbsiders who sell cars that are bandaided together in back alley shops by less than skilled people. They pass the 50 ft rule but many are unsafe as they are made up of the front and rear halves of two different wrecked cars stitched together.

In this area there seems to be a number of characters who make their living selling parts of stolen cars especially Hondas but the main player in that deal got busted a while back. The fast and furious crowd go through a lot of Honda motors when they put nos to them.

The add has been deleted. Is this the guy who always has the adds in bold print for tach dashes and tilt columns? How does the state know your house address? By tracking your computer or do they call?
