The side glass is still a bit costly IMO, and I am not sure it will fit with the bear claws installed and the suicide hinges.

very nice , I too thought the chop was bad idea when I first read it, I have seen a few of these truck's chop'd and never seen one that look'd right, the lines just dont flow . however you have defantly pull'd it off ! make's me wanna chop the dually 2 inch's . I realy like the fender's, I plan on do'n that to my rear fender's but now I may do all four .

I'm with jitterguy ...... I was not into the chop at first .... due to the botched jobs I'd seen on others ..... not metal workingwise but dimensionally & aesthetically.
Yours ....... works. I think moreso because of the full sized rear window. As for the fender idea ....... not sure you thought of it but it too works with what you've done with the rest of the truck. I would not hesitate doing that myself. Good job so far. Ratty 46 |

The trucks looks great all mocked up. Love the overall, subtlety of the mods you did. Keeps it looking stock but cut all to heck too. Like was said earlier, it will make me have to stop and really look to figure out what all has been changed. And I'll bet most people don't catch it all.

When I got it it had a 350 crate motor in it. Nothing fancy but it only has about 3,000 miles on it. I may add a few power goodies but nothing extreme.

Unless I come up with something creative they won't be functional. Just taking a quick look at them the top of the window will tuck up into the door so I doubt they will open. Realisticly I would probably never open them up anyway.

I've been meaning to post this for awhile. Just like everybody else--I am blown away. Everything looks great. I've thought for years that just a couple inches would look right. I think most people figure--"if I'm gonna chop it, by god everybody's gonna notice it", but you resisted and I commend you. The window sealed the deal.

Hey guys, I need some help. I am trying to get my doors finished up but I need some info. Since my window doesn't roll all the way up I am left with a gap between the glass and door.
All I have to do is widen that portion of the pillar which is no problem but I don't know how far. Can someone measure how far their glass extends into the door channel? Remember I don't have any weather stripping so measurements need to be from the door edge. A picture would be awesome if possible. Thanks! |

I'm assuming you are still planning on keeping the vent windows stationary.
The way I see it you have two options here. 1. Widdle away at the vent windows with a belt sander until they are the right size. 2. Make them out of lexan. That is how they used to be on my truck and you can use a flat piece to do it. This is how 95% of the chops are done on square bodies that I've seen. I can understand your resistance to using lexan but you really have limited options unless you really want to lay out some coin on some custom glass. If you decide you don't want the vent windows, that opens up a few more options, but increases the cost tremendously. You also may want to talk to the people who make speed glass. They have a hard time understanding what a chop does to the shape of the glass, but they make material that you can work with and will end up looking decent for "minimal cost". I am planning for the wing windows to be stationary. You lost me on option 1 though. If I were to move the side window back to fill the gap then the wing window would be bigger.
I did consider making the wing window larger with lexan but I didn't like the look since the window won't line up as well with the bend at the top of the door. I just measured and to get the glass to tuck into the door like it should I would need to widen the rear portion of the door 1/2". |
