I don't do final bodywork and paint, I don't bend exhaust pipes, and I don't mount tires. I also farmed out the initial sand blasting on the frame. We'll see how getting the Hot Rod Air working correctly goes.

This is kinda weird for me because I've done alot of the work previously, but then it came time to redo some of it and I had a shop or two take care of it.

The only thing I haven't touched is the body work. I have some good friends who can do it for me for a fair price, so I don't mess with it.

I refreshed the interior once, then had a shop completely redo it when we did the new stereo system.

I had a shop convert the A/C to R134a but I do most of the mechanical work. I don't do transmissions though. I can't weld to save my life, so a friend of mine built the exhaust system for me for basically what it would cost me in materials, so I just had him do that.

Call it 50%?

I voted 75% but it's closer to 90.
I did farm out the windshield. Engine I did buy used, but heads, intake, and cam change were mine. I was going to try the transmission, but couldn't find the time so i went with a re-built, (I was patching the cab back together at the time.)

My truck is not a resto, or a show piece. I just needed a rugged truck and the old girl deserved NOT to be crushed.

i've changed 229 to 350+ trannys(had the turbo 350 built + shift kit),ball joints,etc front end,done all my electrical radios etc amps alarms,built my own sub boxes,doing my own insides changing seats,collecting (brand new used) lol parts for a body job got 4 of 6 doors this fall, factory gm fenders (full boxside was bought for the 87 now not needed)hate exhaust i'll send that out if it not plug and play lol my weilding an't the best but nothing has fallen off yet.And a buddy i've known 30 years + does my body and paint, me and couple of friends have pulled bodys/frames apart did an 83 monti a few years back did a frame off resto on it

AceX, Don't sell yourself short here. Even though you had others do some work 2nd go around, It was your design and your rig turned out sweet....


Maybe I should have explained a little better..... I know not everyone has high dollar equipment (alignment rack/tire changer-balancer/exhaust pipe bender/spray booth and all specialty tools etc etc) to perform ALL aspects of their build, I sure don't so I won't be able to say I did 100% when finished. But I'm sure shooting for a higher number since I will be re-assembling it from the ground up all by myself.

With Dennis's idea to get plan, I put together a to-do list. Boy is it long.....

Reading everyone's post to this thread really is a inspiration to get back at it and GIT-R-DONE !!!

Pretty much all of the "grunt" work on my '66.
100% of the junk yard runs and parts swaps.
50% of the motor- assembly mostly- did not do the machine work.
95% of the body work thus far has been a buddy of mine.
90% of brake rebuilds, the switch to PS, tilt column install, switch to 350TH and various other upgrades.

Oh yeah- 100% of the cost....

im building a 83 c-10 step side no pics rigth now there still on my camers, but im doing it all from rebuilding the motor to suspension, body work and paint, the only thing im not doing is makeing the new seat cover to replace the old factory boreing one, and re covering the door panels, other then i am/did everything on my truck and im 22 years old

I did prob, 99.9% The only thing I didnt make was the bungs for my 4 link. I had a metal shop bore the round stock and match it to the correct bushing then I welded everything together for the c-10 this s-10 I did everything[ATTACH][ATTACH][ATTACH][ATTACH][/ATTACH][/ATTACH][/ATTACH][/ATTACH]I cut my own c-notch made all the bag brackets built center console and making a custom dash to hold a 7.3" tv and some other cool stuff

Heres all the pics I have for the console, I can take some more if you like and show you how it bolts together. The piece between the seats is a sub box and there are two cup holders a spot for my dvd player and for 3 gauges, and you wont see any screws when its covered it bolts down from the inside.Its sits high but that the way I wanted it, I hate leaning way over to put my elbo on it. And there are power seats out of a 98 concord

I didnt mount my tires on the rims, how ever i could have done it in half the time and mauled them half as bad with a tire iron doing it myself. THANKS PEP BOYS!!!!

And i did not install my electric fan, my uncil did that.

I used 3/4 MDF and a light weight body filler or bondo will work, and if you wanna make nice smooth bends on the flat surfaces just take grill cloth or some kinda material that strong and strech it and staple it underneath and fill it with body filler. I will take some pics tomorrow and show ya what im talking about Rob.

I just put a gauge in for looks and the cup holders too, I got the cup holders from my local RV dealer they have all shapes and sizes and they even have them in chrome. I built the sub box first and molded it to fit the floor and the inside I drilled 2 holes and marked them then I welded to bolts to the floor to hold it down. For the top of the box there is a board the same size that has 2" thick pad that will get covered and then bolted down to the box, you could hinge it and make it whatever you want. Then I took cardboard and made a rough cut of the sides, when I got close to what I wanted I cut one side and lined it up where it looked good then I traced a line on the subbox of the angle. Cut the other side of console then I screwed to fir strips on the subbox where I traced the lines for the angles and screwed the sides on. then I screwed flat peices where ever I could put them, then stapled grill cloth to the underside (thats the red stuff you see) and filled in with body putty and smothed. And the pic where you see the grill cloth you see a board with two holes in it, thats where half of the console will get bolted. (same thing drilled holes when through cup holes and marked the floor then welded bolts) If you got any more Q? Rob or if anyone else does just let me know will be more than happy to answer

I like the sub box idea since space is limited, Will check RV suppliers for a BIG cup holder for my 34 and 44 oncer mugs.....
