S10 Swappers Battery Location ideas
First time poster. Been working on my first build, a 51 s10 swap. There are lots of great ideas and info here. Looking for any ideas on battery locations. Would like to keep it off of the fire wall.
Thanks Brent Last edited by weids; 02-17-2010 at 07:03 PM. |

Im putting mine in the inside of the cab in the back two corners(speaker enclosure between). They fit perfectly right there on that shelf.

Re: S10 Swappers Battery Location ideas
I plan on mounting mine on the outside of the frame inside the back part of the right rear fender (plenty of room in those big ol fenders). I was gonna put in the engine compartment recessed into the custom made inner fenders, but way to much work.

Love your truck. Can't wait to see some color on it. Behind the seat is definitly an option. Bowties Thanks for the welcome. I will try to get some pics up of my truck. 1952SSR That is a good idea. Is there any issues with the Battery being that far from the engine? I like where you are going with your build |

Re: S10 Swappers Battery Location ideas
I'm not a big fan of gas or battery fumes in the cab. Also had the opportunity when young to roll a car that had the battery under the passenger seat, passenger got doused pretty good, luckily we were close to water to flush him and he just lost a little hair. I kept mine on the firewall because I wanted it accessible in case of problems in the boonies and less places for big wires to short out.

Re: S10 Swappers Battery Location ideas
Marine battery box mounted behind passenger side of seat. OrrieG now has me thinking of fire extinguisher AND acid wash...
We ran cable through the floor and wrapped it with fuel line and cable tied above and below so it won't rub and the rubbers won't slip off. |

Re: S10 Swappers Battery Location ideas
yeah I will speak from experience. If your battery cable melts for some unforseen reason, the cab will fill with sulfur type smoke in about 10 seconds. And you better hope you are not driving because I doubt you will be able to safely stop in time. Luckly I was in the driveway. I got choked just getting out of the parked truck. Needless to say my battery is on the firewall now

That's what I was thinking too. That's a long cable run.

My battery is recessed into the firewall for a smoothed look. Built a box in place of the heater box. Batter slides in and has an access panel on the firewall.

Re: S10 Swappers Battery Location ideas
When I had my Typhoon and was a part of the SYTY'ers alot of those guys mounted theirs in Ty's back or the Sy's beds. Even our HHR has it's battery in the back. I would put it closer and make a access panel in my bed floor but I'm using a sheet of 1/4" aluminum and cutting that stuff is tough.

Here are a couple of pics of my truck as it sits now. Wheels will be changed to smoothies or 57? caddilac caps with wide whites. Paint is Kiwi Pearl Metalic medium gloss.

Not too bad. Ran 0 or 1 gauge. I think 1. Ran it down out of the cab, into the frame rail and up through a slotted hole in the frame right next to the starter. No issues thus far. Bolted the negative to the frame just below the back of the cab. It'll stay in the cab but I will make sure it has the marine straps connected so we don't have anything loose rolling around in the cab in the event of a roll over. |
