Re: side mirror pics
I'm running a basic stock round mirror for a 67-72 truck that I bought at a swap meet for a buck then powdercoated to make look nice.

Re: side mirror pics
Maybe 'cause the West Coast has so much traffic that the mirrors have to be HUUUUGE to keep from running over somebody?
I am guessing 'cause the first ones that were used were from the "West Coast".... "Got to get me some of the mirros like the guys out on the West Coast are using'" Last edited by lakeroadster; 02-24-2010 at 09:04 AM. |

Re: side mirror pics
I would guess somebody filled the factory holes. I've never seen one of these trucks that didn't have the threaded inserts on the drivers door. My truck was ordered brand new with the West Coast mirrors, and it still had the factory screws sticking out of the threaded holes for the standard mirror arm. Here's a shot showing where they were located:
Before drilling anything, you might want to pull the inside panel and look in the door and see if the nuts are still in there. Perhaps they were just bondo'd over and you could easily open them back up (assuming you'd have any interest in this type mirror). If you don't want to drill holes at all, you can always go with a peep mirror clamped on the top edge of the door. Up until my 1960 GMC, this was the primary type of mirror I used for about 25 years on a number of early cars. I would have run one on my GMC, but it already had the factory holes in the door for the standard arm. Another option is to use a passenger car mirror from any of the early 60's GM offerings. What looks and fits best really depends on the overall theme or style of your truck. The only caution I'd offer when mounting a new mirror somewhere other than the factory location, is make sure it doesn't interfere with operation of the vent window. This happened on my moms brand new 1964 Buick Skylark. It arrived at the dealer with the mirror blocking the vent. They had to move the mirror and repaint the door, on a brand new car! |

Re: side mirror pics
I got these mirrors from Checker (CSK) a while back. They clamp on like peep mirrors, but the diameter of the mirror is the same as original...
Very affordable too... If they are still available.

Re: side mirror pics
Very nice clean looking truck. Love the spotlights. They're not very common anymore like they were back in the 50's and 60's.
