Nice find, will only appreciate in value! Thanks for sharing the photos, the green paint on engine should answer some questions around here. It does appear the original air cleaner has been removed and replaced with a later model version. May of had an oil bath originally.Is the original build sheet stuck to the back of seat springs? Becareful if you try to remove it, very fragile!

Where can I buy more of that "green paint"? Does POR 15 make it in engine color?

So, the air cleaner is incorrect?

Also the original build sheet was under the springs in BOTH the upper and lower seat cushions!! (so, I have two of them!!) in pieces, but they can be kind of taped together.

The duplicolor engine enamel DE1617 Ford Green is a great match for your 292. Yes, the air cleaner you have is period incorrect. It looks like a 68 version. The 292 air cleaner uses the same outer housing as the period 283 and 327. The bottom part has a smaller hole for the 1 barrel carb.

It looks like Duplicolor DE1618 Detroit Diesel alpine Green is a close match for my motor...I bought a rattlr can and its cap sure looks real close to the green on the valve cover...

With regards to the air cleaner, keep in mind this was originally a factory equipped A.I.R. (California emissions) truck...perhaps it is the right aircleaner...I mean it still has an original points distributor...Any photos of the "correct 292 air cleaner" I am in the market for one....

You probably originally had a oil bath air cleaner, which would explain why it would have been changed. Check your build sheet for the oil bath air cleaner option. Detriot Diesel green is too light. If the engine had degreaser on it, it will fade and bleach the original green. Ford Green more closely matches the original unbleached color.Check out this 66 on ebay for a better shot of the same air cleaner #300402632484

Wheels were gloss black on solid paint trucks. Always a good idea to research colors before painting, especially if you want an authentic period look.

Outstanding, good for you. Truly a once in a lifetime find for most of us. Glad to see you're going to restore it, almost a shame to modify something so stock. Take lots of pictures now, or you'll be mad at yourself a long time in the future. It's real easy to get started and then remember you already began fixing things up and didn't capture "the moment".

Good find! I paid 3k for a very similar truck. Mine had some of the mechanics done (350, HEI, dropped spindles, disc brakes) but the cab ended up being pretty bad (see my sig)

FWIW- I checked the gas mileage today on my 66 SWB fleetside 292 4 speed (granny low) all stock single 1 bbl carb truck. Overall, it got 16.5 mpg on freeway, going 60-70 mph (large truck tires in rear) and 3.73.gears (I think, not sure) non posi rear end. But in the city its a different story- only 9 mpg!

Had a rather annoying oil leak, especially after freeway use (high rpms). So, today I replaced the valve cover gasket with a cork Felpro gasket and gasket sealerThen I pressure-washed the motor (again) and no more leaks...so far...at all!! I used a quart every 300 miles so far (prior to the new gasket) so soon I'll change the oil for the first time and see how long a quart lasts now...

Man these are really easy to work on so far!
